The what3words for Google Maps extension allows you to search a what3words address (in all 60 what3words available languages) within Google Maps and display it as a pin on the map. It also allows you display the what3words address of any location when you click on the map.
Installation Guide:
Step 1: Install the Extension
- Click "Add to Chrome" to install the extension
- Once installed, you'll see the what3words icon in your browser's toolbar
Step 2: Get Your what3words API Key
- Visit developer.what3words.com to create a free account
- Sign up with your email address and create a password
- After logging in, navigate to the "API Keys" section
- Click "Create New API Key" and give it a name (e.g., "Chrome Extension")
- Set the "Public Domain" to "localhost" for personal use
- Accept the terms and conditions and click "Create Key"
- Your new API key will appear on the screen - copy this key
Step 3: Configure the Extension
- Click on the what3words extension icon in your Chrome toolbar
- Paste your API key into the field labeled "what3words API Key"
- Click "Save" to store your API key
- You'll see a confirmation message when your key is successfully validated
Step 4: Start Using the Extension
- Navigate to Google Maps
- Click anywhere on the map to see the what3words address for that location
- Use the search feature in the overlay to look up what3words addresses
- Click on any address to open it on the what3words website, or use the copy button to share it
