The Great Suspender Reloaded is back on the Chrome Web Store!
This is a safe fork of The Great Suspender and The Great Suspender Original, with open-source code under the GPL 2.0 license and compatible with Manifest v3, which means it works in all Chromium-based browsers in 2025.

I originally made this version for myself but decided to share it with the community, so feel free to join the development. This is not my main job, and I work on fixing bugs and adding new features in my free time.

All trackers and external site requests have also been removed from this version, making it a fully local extension with no external scripts, verified by the Chrome Web Store.

- I used it for the first time yesterday. I think I might have some settings wrong, but basically kept the default and removed one of them. On one browser with like 50 tabs, it didn't work at all. On my other browser with about 20, it suspended about 3. I figured the settings would save me from doing anything manually. Am I wrong? Maybe just take some time, but I figured settings would suspend all my tabs after an hour.......and then I log in today and click to reload what I want; which is what happened with about 3 of them.

- The old source code worked like a champ, archived from before it became malware, until google updated Chrome and killed off a lot of old extensions that didn't use a modern manifest. As this is built on old TGS code, it should work equally, yet it does not. Hotkeys regularly fail, it does not honour some of the checkboxes the way the original TGS did. Not sure why this is, but the old one worked without fail. This version is inconsistent at best, and more often than not, entirely unreliable.

- The 'click to reload' feature is so stupid. When I try to switch back to Chrome from another application, sometimes the tab I suspended remains visible as the last thing I saw, and as soon as I click anywhere on the page, the suspended tab reloads and becomes active again. Which idiot designed this? Making the entire page area sensitive to this action, instead of putting a small button in a large area to unsuspend it, is nothing short of idiocy.

- This is a total lifesaver... I cannot thank the developer enough for porting this to manifest v3! This is an unmatched extension, with all other extensions either having extensive tracking, not working properly or asking for a subscription. This is a safe version of the beloved great suspended that I have used for years, which is fast, light on resources and most importantly has session management, so I can restore and even port all my sessions to any PC I want. Well done!

- Hi, The Great Suspender Reloaded is wonderful. Thank you !!! The new version 1.0.1 was installed automatically on PC restart. I believe there are few issues with it. 1. I had to reconfigure settings that were not kept. 2. Compared to version 1.0.0, tabs take much more memory now, even with Chrome memory-saving enabled & screenshot disabled. 3. Some tabs get the extension icon after browser restart. Original icon can be recovered by a single click. 4. Not all tabs are being automatically suspended after 10min. Some tabs manage to escape that "destiny" Best regards, and thank you again Yaniv

- Very admirable effort saving us from the Great suspender No-Track which only works on Brave, for now until its gone forever once Brave can't support ManifestV2. You're amazing. But there is a significant problem which needs fixed before I think this can be a viable alternative. After re-opening the browser, tabs suspended end up having a Great Suspender icon instead of the website favicon (on the tab), so after reopening, you can't see what sites you even have anymore. You'd have to click every single tab for a second just to load the icons, every time you restart. As well as this, the normal text to the left of the URL bar is empty, like its missing something, or it says "The Great". You also can't unsuspend them without having to click each site, loading it, and THEN you can mass-unsuspend them. Everything else works, auto-suspend, keyboard shortcuts, should be a full upgrade. This seems to only happen in Brave Browser in my testing. Which makes it worse honestly, nobody should use base chrome. I definitely have to use no-track until this is fixed, or I have to somehow patch your extension and make one myself. If you have a donation tip jar I would give a good tip for this to be fixed.

- Appreciate you making this extension but please make the code available on GitHub! Saying "this code is totally safe, trust us" and then refusing to take 30 seconds to upload the code to GitHub (especially given that previous extensions like "The Great Suspender (notrack)" had public GitHub pages from day one) makes it seem very sketchy, like there is in fact something to hide.

- Tabs aren't being automatically suspended, also dark theme doesn't work in the settings it's still white please fix

- Absolute 5 stars, thank you Developer!!! This is hands down the best tab suspender and also allows you to save your sessions on Settings > Session Management. P.S. If you were using the old Marvelous Suspender (or similar) and your tabs won't open with the new Chrome update, it's easy to re-open your tabs. Go to the URL address bar and scroll to the right until you see "uri=https..." just highlight everything to the left of https and delete. Then your tab will reappear!
