TRANSPARENCY
User transparency and privacy is vital. The following sections include how your data is used/stored, known limitations, and potential cautions.
DATA
-> Data for follower/following lists (only for tracked accounts) are stored directly in your browser’s local storage. It will never leave your browser nor be sent to external sources. Data for accounts that are not tracked or for accounts that you untrack are deleted and not stored.
-> Your signed-in session is used to access Instagram’s internal API, and no Instagram passwords or private info is collected nor accessed.
-> No sketchy third-party apps or services are used. The extension communicates directly with Instagram’s internal API.
KNOWN LIMITATIONS & DISCLAIMERS
-> Searching time: Searching larger accounts will take longer to retrieve followers/following lists and display their information. However, there is a dynamic visual progress report that shows the number of users found.
-> Viewing older unfollowers: It is not possible to view older unfollowers than when you started tracking an account. The only way to see unfollowers is by comparing old & new lists, as Instagram does not have a feature to view unfollowers. Therefore, you must add users to your Tracked Accounts in order to start tracking unfollowers. Any app/service that claims to show you older unfollowers than when you downloaded their service is false.
-> Browser storage limit: Chrome extensions are given an allocated 5MB of local browser storage. Since follower/following lists for tracked accounts are stored directly in your browser, the extension may not be able to track large accounts. See FAQ if you run into this issue. The extension should be able to store a total of ~12k followers+following across all tracked accounts. If there is enough demand, I’d be willing to work on an update that could potentially 4x the amount of followers+following stored while still maintaining browser storage privacy.
-> Searching large/celebrity accounts: Use with caution when searching very large accounts (>10k followers+following), as Instagram’s internal API has rate limitations and could be counted as excessive scraping. We tested this extension by searching accounts with 20k followers+following and it was completely fine, but we do not claim responsibility if your account is flagged for unusual activity. Limit your searches to <10k followers+following per hour for safety.
FAQ
Why do I need to log into Instagram?
-> The extension uses your signed-in session to access Instagram’s internal API to fetch followers/following lists – no sketchy third-party services. It also allows you to access information for private accounts that you follow while boasting 100% accuracy.
I’m getting an undefined error when searching/syncing.
-> Make sure you are on instagram.com and are currently logged in.
Is my data stored anywhere?
-> All of your data is stored in your browser’s local storage and will never be sent to external sources. Your privacy is guaranteed and your data will never leave your browser. No Instagram passwords or private info is collected. See section on data transparency.
How are unfollowers and blocked users tracked?
-> When you track an account, the extension saves your current followers/following lists. On the next sync, it compares the new lists to the old ones to find who unfollowed you, who you unfollowed, and who might have blocked you.
Why am I unable to see older unfollowers?
-> It is not possible to view older unfollowers than when you started tracking an account. The only way to see unfollowers is by comparing old and new lists, as Instagram does not have a feature to view unfollowers. Therefore, you must add users to your Tracked Accounts in order to start tracking unfollowers. Any app/service that claims to show you older unfollowers than when you downloaded their service is false.
Is the “blocked you” list 100% accurate?
-> Blocked users are inferred by comparing old and new lists. There is no official way to detect blocks, so this is an approximation.
It says I’ve hit the browser storage limit.
-> The extension saves your follower and following lists directly in your browser storage to protect your privacy. This storage space is limited. If you try to track a very large account, there may not be enough space to save all the data. Remove other tracked accounts to free up space, or search an account with fewer followers.
Is this safe to use?
-> Your privacy is guaranteed and your data is securely stored within your browser and will never be externally stored or accessed. No sketchy third-party apps or services are used. However, excessive scraping for large accounts may count as unusual activity, so use with caution when searching large/celebrity accounts (see section on limitations).
