- I’ve tried a lot of Vimeo video downloader tools and extensions, and this is by far the best one I’ve used. The Vimeo Video Downloader Chrome extension makes it super easy to download Vimeo videos in original quality (HD, 1080p, even 4K when available). It works on the main vimeo.com site and also on embedded Vimeo players across other websites, which is huge because most other Vimeo downloaders fail there. The downloads are fast, direct MP4 files — no sketchy conversions, no re-encoding, no watermarks. Just clean, high-quality video files saved straight to my computer. It even supports private Vimeo videos (as long as you’re logged in with access), which most “free Vimeo downloader” tools don’t handle. What sets this extension apart is how safe and transparent it is. It’s open source, no ads, no spyware, and it only asks for minimal permissions. The developer keeps it updated whenever Vimeo changes things, so it doesn’t randomly break like other Chrome Vimeo downloaders I’ve tried. I’d love to see future features like batch downloads (entire Vimeo albums or showcases) and customizable file naming, but even without those, this extension does exactly what I need.
