This extension operates on a Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) model, designed to give you maximum privacy and control.
• You Are in Control: You need an API key from an AI provider (like Google, OpenAI, or Anthropic) to use the extension's core features.
• Stored Locally: Your API keys are stored securely and only on your local computer using chrome.storage.local. They are never transmitted to our servers.
• Direct Connection: When you run an analysis, your content is sent directly from your browser to the AI provider you've configured. Your content is never sent to or stored by the Sidebar AI developers.
• Cost Management: You are responsible for any costs associated with your API key usage, based on the pricing of your chosen AI provider.
🚀 Getting Started in 60 Seconds
1. Click the "Add to Chrome" button and pin the Sidebar AI icon to your toolbar.
2. Open the side panel (Click the icon or press Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+S).
3. Click the Settings ⚙️ icon in the top-left.
4. Select your preferred AI Service from the dropdown.
5. Paste your API Key into the input field and click "Save & Validate Key".
6. You're ready to go! Start analyzing pages, text, or links.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. Do I need a ChatGPT or Gemini account?
You need an API Key from one of them. Our settings panel includes a link and instructions to help you get a free key from Google for the Gemini models.
2. Is the extension free to use?
At the moment, the extension is free. You are responsible only for the usage costs of your own API key, which are billed to you directly by your chosen AI provider (Google, OpenAI, etc.).
