Send scientific articles to your e-reader in an optimized layout.
Dontprint lets you send scientific articles to your e-reader directly from the websites of most major journals and preprint servers. Dontprint optimizes the layout of articles so that you can read them comfortably on the small screen of your e-reader.
FEATURES:
* compatible with almost all e-readers, including Amazon Kindle™
* automatically detect websites of journals
* optimize layout for small screens (even works for multi-column articles with figures and equations)
* transfer documents wirelessly or via USB
* dontprint articles with a single mouse click—it's even easier than traditional printing
Please note that this is still a BETA version. It should be useful but there may still be some rough edges. Please comment whether or not this extension works on your system.
EXPLANATION OF PERMISSIONS:
Please note that Dontprint is open source software. This means that anyone in the world can look through the program code of this extension and verify that it doesn't do any sneaky things. You can find the source code at https://github.com/robamler/dontprint.
--> Read and change website data:
Dontprint analyzes the web pages you visit in order to detect if the page corresponds to a scientific article. Dontprint doesn't actually *change* any website data but Chrome extensions cannot request "read-only" permissions.
--> Manage your downloads:
If your e-reader cannot receive documents via e-mail, then Dontprint places the optimized articles in your "Downloads" folder. You can then transfer them to your e-reader manually. Dontprint never touches or records any other files you download.
--> Communicate with cooperating websites:
This only affects websites served from my own server, www.dontprint.net. I use this feature to display a non-intrusive success message once Dontprint is done processing an article, and on the download page in order to detect whether Dontprint is already installed in your browser.

- (2015-11-27) J. David Smith: I was in the process of looking for an API for zotero to let me do zotero -> spin up EC2 VM to run k2pdfopt -> email to kindle when I found this. It works great! Glad that I didn't reinvent the wheel.
