This was my story, too. That's why I built the solution myself: HideTube, a Chrome Extension designed to put you back in control.
Instead of blaming a lack of self-control, I believe in building better habits with the right tools. After I started using HideTube, I saw a dramatic increase in my ability to focus and enter a state of flow, free from unnecessary distractions. It starts with the obvious culprits: the time-consuming Shorts feed and the distracting comment sections. But HideTube goes further. It disables the notification bell that tempts you with new videos and removes the sidebar that constantly suggests what to watch next. It even hides the grid of recommendations at the end of a video, helping you finish cleanly after watching what you came for.
The Ultimate Focus Switch: The 'Focus!' Button
Even with everything hidden, sometimes it's still hard to look away. For those moments, hit this button. The video will instantly pause and the screen will go dark, giving you a 30-second window to reflect on your original goal. This brief pause is your final safety net, helping you break free from the YouTube rabbit hole and return to what's important. After 30 seconds, the tab closes automatically.

Focus! Button (Your Escape Button): Still find yourself lost in videos? Click the 'Focus!' button. This powerful feature instantly pauses and hides the video, giving you 30 seconds to remember your goals. The tab then closes automatically, snapping you out of the YouTube trance and giving you back your time.
Customizable & Simple: A clean interface lets you choose exactly which elements to hide.
