Description:
DefineX shows clean, instant definitions right on the page. No tab switching needed. Double-click any word to get its definition, select brief phrases for AI-powered explanations, or double-click longer sentences to translate. Save vocabulary and export it anytime for study.
How It Works:
- For a single word: Double-click to get dictionary definitions (Cambridge, Merriam-Webster, Gemini).
- For a short phrase (2-5 words): Select and double-click for an AI-powered meaning.
- For a longer sentence: Select and double-click to translate it into your chosen language.
- Hear it aloud: Use the text-to-speech (TTS) button for any word, phrase, or sentence.
- Right-click option: Alternatively, right-click any selected text and choose the "Look up" option.
Key Features:
- Instant popup with parts of speech, examples, pronunciations, and audio (when available from Cambridge Dictionary).
- Phrase support (2–5 words) and sentence translation using AI.
- Text-to-speech playback with fallback for single-word audio.
- Saved Words manager with search, filters, multi-select, and bulk delete.
- Export vocabulary in CSV or JSON formats.
- Enable or disable DefineX per site from the toolbar popup.
- Customizable sources (Cambridge, Merriam-Webster, Gemini), definition scope, example count, target language.
Notes:
- Phrase meanings require the Gemini source.
- Some sites (e.g., Chrome Web Store pages, PDFs, and ChatGPT) may restrict in-page overlays, causing features to break or be unavailable.
