HOW IT WORKS

Getting Started

1. Install the Extension: Click "Add to Chrome" and the extension will be installed automatically.

2. Sign In: Click the extension icon in your Chrome toolbar and sign in with your Google account.

3. Start Sharing: Use the popup to send messages to your devices, right-click text or images on web pages to send instantly, or generate a 6-digit code to share with anyone.

Sending Content

Method 1: Using the Extension Popup
1. Click the Bufferio icon in your Chrome toolbar
2. Navigate to the "Messages" tab
3. Select a target device from the dropdown
4. Type your message or attach files
5. Click "Send Message"

Method 2: Using Context Menu (Text)
1. Select any text on a webpage
2. Right-click on the selected text
3. Choose "Send to Buffer App" from the context menu
4. Select the target device from the popup
5. The text is sent instantly

Method 3: Using Context Menu (Images)
1. Right-click any image on a webpage
2. Choose "Send image to Buffer App" from the context menu
3. Select the target device from the popup
4. The image is sent instantly

Method 4: Send to Non-Registered Devices
1. Click the extension icon
2. Click "Send to not my device"
3. Enter your message or attach files
4. Click "Get Code" to generate a 6-digit code
5. Share the code with the recipient
6. They enter the code on bufferio.app to receive your content

Receiving Content

From Registered Devices:
Messages appear automatically in the "Messages" tab. You'll receive a desktop notification when new content arrives. Click on any message to view, copy, or download it.

Using a 6-Digit Code:
1. Visit bufferio.app on any device
2. Click "Receive by Code"
3. Enter the 6-digit code provided by the sender
4. Your content will appear instantly

PRIVACY & SECURITY

Data Protection
All data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. Authentication tokens are stored securely in Chrome's encrypted storage. No data is shared with third parties except your configured backend API. Google authentication is used only for sign-in purposes.

Permissions Explained

identity - Required for Google Sign-In authentication. We only request your email and profile information to identify you.

storage - Used to store your authentication tokens and device ID locally on your computer. This data never leaves your device except for API authentication.

contextMenus - Enables the right-click menu options to send text and images from web pages.

notifications - Allows the extension to show desktop notifications when you receive new messages.

activeTab - Required to access the currently active tab when you use the context menu to send selected text or images.

downloads - Enables downloading files that you receive through the extension.

clipboardWrite - Allows copying received content to your clipboard for easy pasting.

host_permissions - Required to communicate with the Bufferio API server and Google authentication services.

What We Don't Do
We don't track your browsing history. We don't collect personal information beyond what's needed for authentication. We don't share your data with advertisers. We don't access websites you visit except when you explicitly use the context menu.

DEVICE MANAGEMENT

Viewing Your Devices
Click the "Devices" tab in the extension popup to see all your registered devices. Current device (Chrome Extension) is marked with a badge. Other devices (Web, Android, etc.) are listed with their names. You can rename devices for easier identification.

Managing Devices
Rename: Click the edit icon next to any device to change its name. Delete: Remove devices you no longer use (this also deletes associated messages). Refresh: Update the device list to see newly registered devices.

File Size Limits
Maximum file size: 100MB per file
Multiple files can be sent in a single message
Images are automatically optimized for transfer

Message Storage
Messages are stored locally on your device using IndexedDB
Messages are also stored on the server for synchronization
You can delete messages individually or clear all messages

Background Processing
The extension runs a background service worker that checks for new messages every 10 seconds. This ensures you receive messages even when the popup is closed. Background sync continues as long as Chrome is running.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Can't Sign In
Make sure you have an active internet connection. Check that pop-ups are not blocked for Google authentication. Try signing out and signing in again.

Messages Not Appearing
Check your internet connection. Make sure the target device is online and has Bufferio open. Try refreshing the device list. Check if notifications are enabled in Chrome settings.

Context Menu Not Working
Make sure the extension is enabled in chrome://extensions/. Try reloading the extension. Restart Chrome if the issue persists.

Files Not Sending
Check that file size is under 100MB. Ensure you have a stable internet connection. Try sending a smaller file first to test.

Code Not Working
Codes expire after a set time for security. Make sure you're entering the code correctly. Request a new code if the old one has expired.
