Extension Actions
Claude in Chrome (Beta)
Claude is an AI assistant that works directly in your browser, automating tasks and taking actions on your behalf. Use natural conversation to navigate websites, fill forms, extract data, and run multi-step workflows. Available to all paid subscribers.
WHAT'S NEW
After months of testing, Claude in Chrome is now available in beta. Major updates since launch:
- Claude Code integration: Build in terminal, test in browser—Claude Code and Chrome extension work together seamlessly
- Record a workflow: Easily teach Claude your workflow and Claude learns the steps.
- Scheduled tasks: Set recurring browser workflows that run automatically on your schedule
- Planning mode: Approve Claude's plan once, then let it execute independently until complete
- Multi-tab workflows: Claude works across multiple tabs simultaneously—drag tabs into Claude's tab group
- Console logs: Claude reads errors, network requests, and DOM state for debugging
- Control browser actions from Claude Desktop: Start a task in Claude Desktop and let it handle work in the browser without switching windows.
CLAUDE IN YOUR BROWSER
Chat with Claude in the sidebar while browsing any website. Ask Claude to read pages, click buttons, or handle repetitive tasks—all through natural conversation.
- Navigate and organize your inbox and calendar
- Fill forms and handle repetitive data entry
- Extract information from web content
- Run multi-step processes across multiple tabs
- Record common browser workflows and let Claude handle them automatically
FOR DEVELOPERS
Claude Code + Chrome extension unlocks a build-test-fix loop:
- Design verification: Take a Figma mock, build with Claude Code, verify accuracy in browser
- Live debugging: Claude reads console errors and DOM state, then fixes code
- Automated testing: Schedule Claude to verify your site daily and catch regressions
YOU'RE IN CONTROL
Pre-approve actions that Claude can take on websites before you start working. Review Claude's approach once, then let it run. Claude will still ask before taking certain irreversible or potentially harmful actions, like making a purchase.
For Team & Enterprise plans, admins have controls in place to enable/disable the extension org-wide, and an allowlist and blocklist for approved sites.
GETTING STARTED
1. Subscribe to any paid plan
2. Install this extension
3. Sign in with your Claude credentials
4. Open sidebar and describe your task (or record your workflow to teach Claude)
5. Grant permissions when prompted
USE SAFELY
Browser AI can encounter prompt injection—hidden instructions on websites that attempt to hijack Claude's actions. We've built defenses and tested extensively, but recommend these practices:
Start with trusted sites: Grant permissions to familiar websites first
Review sensitive actions: Always confirm before Claude handles financial, personal, or work-critical tasks
Report unexpected behavior: Help us improve by flagging issues through feedback options

Note: Claude in Chrome is not supported on other Chromium-based web browsers or mobile devices.

- Claude in Chrome extension was working when I first installed it a few days ago. Now it's not connecting to Cowork mode. I used Claude to help me debug and tried the following: - Checked that Chrome extension was installed, enabled, and signed into my login email. - All required permissions were granted (debugger, scripting, tabs, nativeMessaging, etc.) with site access set to "all sites" - Claude in Chrome was enabled in Cowork's Connector Settings (globally) and also enabled per-conversation in the chat input area - Fully restarted the Cowork/Claude Desktop app - Disabled and re-enabled the Chrome extension - Cleared claude.ai cookies and cache - Checked for extension updates via Developer mode in chrome://extensions Despite all of the above, Cowork still could not detect the Chrome extension and returned "Claude in Chrome is not connected. I'm not sure what the issue is but I notice it's not just me; others have the same issue also. Please could Claude fix this urgently?

- Since installing the Claude Chrome Extension, I am no longer able to use the browser's native right-click context menu on any page. The extension appears to be intercepting or replacing it with its own custom menu, which prevents normal browser functionality like opening links in new tabs, saving images, inspecting elements, and other standard right-click actions. The only workaround I've found is holding Shift while right-clicking, which bypasses the extension's menu and restores the native one. This is an unintended and disruptive side effect. The extension should not override default browser behavior without user consent or at minimum should offer a setting to disable this. Please fix this in a future update. If you ask Claude about it, it is fully aware and suggests that you use the extension to carry out tasks where you need to right click...

- Not good at understanding tasks, stops again and again with high token usage warning, which however are mine to use. Waste of time.

- Same here Pay $140 CAD for this not to work is not acceptable. Everything worked great. And now that I have implemented my new SOP's this happens. Guess my own fault for trusting a company that updates the product every 3 hours. How could anything go wrong with that approach. Email search fail. Product just hangs and can not continue. First I thought it was me. but now that I am reading the threads,NO ITS YOU :)

- It has been working before, even though it had a lot of bugs and issues, but now it's not even loading AT ALL (infinite loading spinner).

- Great for about a week, then stopped working. From the other reviews I read, it looks like it's a real lemon. It's a Beta, so maybe someday.

- I woudl love to give 5 stars but only 2 for now... for six days the Claude in Chrome extension has not been able to pair with the Claude Desktop app. The problem started immediately after a Claude Desktop update around May 9, 2026, and nothing I have tried has fixed it. The pairing broadcast from Desktop never even reaches the extension, so Claude in Chrome is completely unusable. I have done every step Anthropic's own troubleshooting article recommends and then some. Fully quit and relaunched the Desktop app via Task Manager. Reloaded the extension from chrome://extensions. Uninstalled and reinstalled the extension. Signed out and back in on both sides with the same account. Cleared cache and cookies for claude.ai. Restarted the computer. Toggled the Claude in Chrome connector off and back on in Desktop settings. Opened the extension side panel manually to wake the service worker. The connector toggle is enabled, the account matches on both ends, site permissions are set to allow, and there is an active paid plan. The handshake still does not reach the extension. Six days of broken functionality on a paid product with no in-product escalation path is unacceptable. This needs a fix.

- Worked mostly at thew beginning, now not at all.

- The extension initially worked, but then stopped functioning. Despite spending several hours troubleshooting, I have been unable to get the extension working with the Claude desktop app on Windows. In my experience, this is the most buggy extension I have used. I am disappointed that these issues remain unresolved by a leading AI company. One star is more than you deserve, but there is no option to give you anything less.

- Keep logging out every 3-4 seconds. Can't be used.

- Why'd you have to break it, anthropic? it was working great until your stupid claudebleed patch

- This is hot garbage if you want Claude Desktop to use it. This is supposedly due to Chrome limitations with background worker threads but I found it extremely unreliable. Just ask Claude to walk you through setting up the Playwright MCP server instead.
- Dmitry Klishev
- Just stopped working when I needed it most. People, stop breaking things that already work fine.

- not working even though signed in with same id. Unable to access chrome through claude app
- Olaf van Gessel
- When the desktop app actually works together with the Chrome extension, is brilliant. But lots of times it can't connect, whatever you try. In that case, it's useless to me.
- Robert Palmer
- Really useful, but a security nightmare. Make sure you only use this extension in a dedicated Profile and not your everyday one thats logged into every account you have access to. Prompt injection is a real threat.

- Doesn't work - wall of permissions errors

- Was working beautifully from within Windows desktop app but died a few days ago and now I cannot access chrome from within desktop app (so cannot use any of the scheduled tasks I built for specific sites). Tried multiple things to no avail. So frustrating as was working well with the sites I use for data. Come on guys fix this thing!!

- I've seen a lot of negative reviews saying this doesn't work, but honestly it's been great for me. I use it both directly in the browser and inside Claude Cowork, and both experiences work perfectly fine. What I find most useful is being able to automate tasks for apps that don't have connectors, instead of waiting for an integration to exist, I can just handle it directly here. That alone makes it a huge productivity win. Maybe some issues depend on specific setups, but in my experience it's been reliable and genuinely useful. Highly recommend giving it a real try before writing it off.

- Was working beautifully from within desktop app but died a few days ago and now I cannot access chrome from within desktop mapp (so cannot use any of the scheduled tasks I built). Content script won't inject into pages from web app. Multiple reinstalls, full Chrome reinstall, Windows system repair (SFC) completed. Issue persists. Aaargh!!!

- I upgraded to Claude Max specifically to use Cowork and the Claude in Chrome integration. Unfortunately, the core feature has been unusable on Windows despite extensive troubleshooting. The issue is not vague or intermittent — the application logs consistently show repeated bridge failures: “Bridge WebSocket error: unable to verify the first certificate” I spent multiple days debugging this, including: * reinstalling Claude Desktop and the Chrome extension * clearing caches and rebuilding local files * updating Windows and Chrome * validating Chrome policies * testing security software interactions * reviewing registry entries and native host configuration * analysing Claude log files directly * comparing against active GitHub bug reports The extension installs correctly. Authentication works correctly. OAuth works correctly. But the Cowork browser bridge repeatedly fails to establish a trusted WebSocket connection. Most frustratingly, Anthropic support has been almost entirely non-responsive. Multiple support requests were ignored, and my refund request was auto-rejected and immediately closed without any meaningful human review. At this point, Cowork on Windows feels unfinished and inadequately supported for a premium flagship feature. I would strongly caution anyone against upgrading to Max purely for Cowork until Anthropic demonstrates that the Windows Chrome bridge is stable and properly supported. - Used to work with Claude Code. Now it is broken doesn't work at all. Claude Code says all pages are blocked. all websites blocked. Can't even read a page I open in the Claude Chrome tab. Surprised as fast as they update their mac app that this extension has been ignored and doesn't work at all with Claude Code on mac. I'm not alone I see other reviews here noting same issue.
