Expose how websites personalize prices to you.
Expose how websites personalize prices to you.
The Price Comparison Tool by Volunteer Science enables you to see how corporations may be changing the prices you see based on factors like your browser cookies and user agent. Pages you visit on Amazon, Google Flights, Walmart, Home Depot, and Hotels.com will be loaded on a remote server, and the server's prices will be loaded seamlessly into your page so that you can compare them. That's pretty cool, but the best part is that you'll be helping data scientists understand this phenomenon, called "price personalization".

- (2019-12-07) Drew McCormick: Can't get it to work on Hotels.com, HomeDepot, or Walmart.
- (2019-06-25) Josh Ulrich: I downloaded this plugin after it was mentioned in a few articles today. I installed, read the instructions, reviewed the permissions, and it doesn't work. I tried the plugin on Amazon and Walmart. The plugin icon displayed "Err" each time it tried to compare prices.
- (2018-09-13) Nir Grinberg: Ever wondered if you're getting the best price for flights, amazon purchases, etc.? This extension will tell you whether you're getting a different price than an anonymous user looking at the same product at the same time.
- (2018-09-13) Kenny Joseph: Great tool for helping me understand how my prices might be personalized!
- (2017-06-23) Dan Valentine: Great concept, but the plugin uses way too much CPU. It constantly uses CPU even if you are not loading new webpages. They even animated the icon.
