HOW DOES IT WORK?

Participants are invited via email or while browsing the website of the company/organization that wants to perform the study. Then, if the study requires the UserZoom Surveys extension, the participant is requested to install it.

The extension only works while taking part in a study that requires it and it is automatically disabled afterwards. Once the study is finished, the participant can easily remove it by following the uninstall instructions.

WHO USES THE INFO COLLECTED?

The companies/organizations that created the studies are the solely responsible for the data collected and how it's managed.

The purpose of these studies is to help improve the products and services of the companies/organizations that created them.

UserZoom Surveys collects and stores your responses when you participate in a study. This may include screenshots of the web pages you view and audio and/or video recordings made using your camera and/or microphone during the study. If the study requires to record your audio and/or video it will always ask for your explicit consent first and will never record anything without it.

A study may ask you to provide personal information. If you have any questions about the study you are taking part of, please contact UserZoom directly and/or the company/organization that created it.

Under no circumstances is the UserZoom Surveys extension installed without your consent.

REQUIRED USER PERMISSIONS

In order to install the UserZoom Surveys extension, you are requested to grant the following permissions:

History: This permission allows us to access any URL visited while in the UX research study, in order to record the navigation urls by the participant

Scripting: This permission allows us to access any URL visited while in the UX research study to capture mouse moves and clicks.

Tabs: In order to access the content of the browser tabs. This is necessary to collect and generate the UX Research results through the UserZoom Platform.

Cookies: Used to access and generate UserZoom related cookies. If you would like to read further on our use of cookies, you can do so by reading our Privacy Policy.

http://*/* and https://*/*: This permission allows us to access any URL visited while in the UX research study to capture mouse moves and clicks.

Notifications: Used to receive notifications related to the UserZoom study while participating, we won’t send you any notification if you’re not actively taking a study.

webNavigation and webRequest: This permission allows us to track the URLs you visit while taking a study. This is necessary to truly capture the natural behaviour you would have when given a navigation task.

webRequestBlocking: This is used to block the content from certain URLs that may be defined by the company or organization running the study. For example, a company wants to know how you buy their products on their website, but if while doing so you visit your profile, they could block that URL to not record any personal information.

<all_urls>: This allows us to generate a session video and upload it to our platform when the study is finished.

Storage: Used to store some events (like the beginning of a task) and the urls visited during the study. Once the study is finished these are uploaded to the UserZoom Platform.

DesktopCapture: We require desktopCapture to record a test participant's experience as they to complete a usability test.

IMPORTANT: Bear in mind that the UserZoom Surveys extension is only active when participating in a UserZoom study. In case you are not actively taking a study, none of the above permissions are used and the extension will not collect any data.
