  • (2023-02-07) LugiDergX: Please add settings to change "hrs" to "minutes". It can be a bit hard to understand the estimated reading time in such format for people that do not understand it and constantly checking the conversion is a waste of time that this extension is supposed to save.
  • (2022-08-21) Ciro Ramírez Suástegui: Doesn't work.
  • (2022-05-30) Cara: I would very much like for this extension to work, but it does literally nothing. No time is displayed and clicking on the extension icon only allows me to change the settings.
  • (2021-09-16) Marcelo Murras: Didn't work at all for me. :(

  • (2018-02-21) Laura Blanco García: Absolutely a must for me. As a community manager I have to search and read many posts and articles (to make content curation as a part of my job), and this extension helps me a lot to decide wether to read those texts in the moment or save the link for later (in apps like Pocket). A productivity power up combo!! I experienced some issues in the past involving incompatibilities with YouTube, but after reporting to the developer he fixed those problems and wrote back to me. I'm so grateful for this follow-up since I love this extension!
  • (2018-02-19) Jeffrey Nichtberger: Helpful and works, but very buggy. Creates an impassable overlay on some sites like Youtube, and it doesn't retain changed settings between sessions.
  • (2018-02-17) Eric Lewis: This extension breaks all links on Youtube.
  • (2017-10-24) Ido: I will vote higher once that the following bug is being solved. Extension works good, and is definitely useful; but the time is being added as an HTML element INSIDE the page, instead that layered over! This breaks on YouTube (as already mentioned in another comment). Also it breaks on GitHub, when requesting the raw version of a file from any repository. This should return just an exact copy of the unaltered file's source code; but ReadingTime will add some markup at the beginning of the page, breaking the possibility to copy the code and paste it somewhere else (a text editor for example). When pasting the copied content, in the first line there is the value of the ReadingTime counter (that in the case of the GitHub page is not even visible!). I guess (but I've never developed an extension before) a background-page should be used, in order to handle the floating timer.
  • (2017-10-21) M Khan: great idea. and its easy to focus and concentrate on article.
  • (2017-10-16) Abhijeet Rastogi: Great. Thanks for the extension.
  • (2017-09-23) ben ting: Great function. But I can't browse on Youtube properly with the extension turned on...
  • (2016-11-30) Kate Sawyer: Incredibly simple idea and unbelievably useful. After testing my actual reading speed, I adjusted the widget settings for my own needs and now I have a remarkably accurate estimate for any article I open. With this information, I know whether I should save to Pocket for a later read or indulge immediately. Fantastic! And saves me the constant struggle of starting an article when I won't have time to finish it, only to be lost and waste time finding my groove when (if!) I am able to return to it.
  • (2016-11-15) Ross McLean (yerbestpal): Great idea, very well executed. If only it would work with Feedly.
  • (2016-05-10) biniam Hagos: This is nice. easy to use and very accurate.
  • (2016-05-05) Yohana Tesfaye: A simple and yet helpful extension for those who spend time reading various articles online.
  • (2016-05-04) Surafel D: a very unobtrusive widget that tells you an estimated time of how much time it takes you to read a webpage article, you can also adjust your reading speed, the default reading speed is set at 228 words per minute

  • (2020-05-26, v:1.1.1) Dean Morrison: reading time in minutes rather than just hours (or fractions thereof)
    *as described in the title*
  • (2019-05-07, v:1.1.1) Andrew Pullins: Display time
Could you make a display time feature? I don't like how it stays around on the page forever. There are times when I am on a page for a while and then look on the page where I have the time estimate pop up and I want to see what is under the estimate. It would be nice if it would go away after a set time.
  • (2019-04-18, v:1.1.1) Manuel Allgaier: Feedback - show time in chrome extension bar instead of widget?
Thanks for building this tool, I found it quite useful! :) The only downside is that the widget sometimes blocks buttons on some websites, and it can't be moved easily. Maybe it would help to give the option to show the time in the chrome extensions bar (so not on the website itself)? Or give the option to click on the extension symbol and have it show the time there? That would be helpful :)
  • (2018-10-20, v:1.1.1) James Gibbins: Disappear after x seconds
Makes it easier than having to click close every time! Thanks :)
  • (2018-08-09, v:1.1.1) Joel Scheuner: Exclude reading time from Webpage selection
Problem: Copying the content of a Webpage or a raw file (e.g., json) via CMD+A (Win: CTRL+A) also copies the reading time. Example: 0:03 hrs {"message":"I wanna get rid of the `< a min`"} Should be easy to implement with the `user-select` css property: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/826782/how-to-disable-text-selection-highlighting Expected side effects: none. At least I think no one wants to copy the readying time (would be also cumbersome with onHover "Close" label).
  • (2018-02-19, v:1.1.0) Dylan Golow: Enhancements
Whitelist pages to prevent activity on those pages Prevents youtube links from working, can't navigate in youtube Could have on/off similar to the extension Dark Mode where the extension can be toggled
  • (2017-09-03, v:1.1.0) Nilo César Teixeira (Niloct): Latest Chrome on Win/Mac and Youtube links
This extension breaks links on the homepage of Youtube using Chrome Win/Mac. The error is "Visibility monitor is not attached" in desktop_polymer.js:5346 Enable this extension, visit http://www.youtube.com and click in any links, they all are inactive and don't load.
  • (2017-08-31, v:1.1.0) John Paraskevopoulos: Seems to break youtube functionality somehow
After youtube changed their layout, having this plugin enabled seems to break the responsivness of youtube. If you go on a channel for example and click any tab, it will not load. Disabling the extension seems to work for me. Linux Chrome Version 60.0.3112.113 (Official Build) (64-bit)
  • (2017-01-31, v:1.1.0) Manuel Zafra: Does it work with The New Yorker?
I've been using this widget for a week and it seems to work perfect in every page except The New Yorker. The widget doesn't show up when reading a TNY article. Any comments on this? Just curious
  • (2017-01-25, v:1.1.0) Mark Bouslog: toggle
It would be great to be able to easily toggle it on and off. Maybe by right clicking the widget then selecting to turn it off or on. I realize the extension can be enabled and disabled via Chrome extension settings, but it's a few more clicks to do so.
  • (2017-01-10, v:1.1.0) Exclude sites
It would be nice to be able to specify in the options certain sites that we don't want the widget to appear for (i.e. sites we visit a lot, but for which the reading time isn't relevant, or sites which have something important in the usual position of the widget).
