Vixis Contact Parser is an easy to use and out-of-the-way extension that allows you to highlight contact information on a page and add/merge it with your Gmail contacts.
Some features:
* Multiple-account support - Allows you to add multiple gmail accounts and direct the contacts to any specific one
* Auto-categorize fields - Parses contact fields and automatically assigns suggested categories (phone, address, company, etc)
* Revise/edit contacts before import - Allow you to edit the information before it's added to your contact list
* Query for existing contacts - Automatically queries your account if the highlighted contact is already in your contacts database
* Create/Merge - Allows you to either create a new contact, or merge information into an existing contact.

- (2016-08-31) Eli Katz: this has got great potential. for concept and execution it deserves 5 stars. it loses 2 stars because: 1) bug that places contacts in google's "other contacts" folder (manual labor to find and remove) 2) interface can be confusing (create / merge / refresh) with no help or documentation 3) ability to add data to other fields, such as social profiles, would be immensely helpful

So far, all Parser output is placed in a purgatory called "Other Contacts" and it might as well be lost. I noticed some people writing about this problem in 2015. Has this been fixed? Also, Is the file type for contacts still limited to Gmail only? The first one is a death blow. The contact literally disappears. Gotta fix this. the contact i save does show up in web browser gmail contacts but not in mobile contact list which is using the same gmail account
