Open links in a modal overlay without leaving the page, send PDF/PPT to google viewer.
For a non-modal, resizable, draggable overlay, see my other extension at:
https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/nnkcfbiefgdaceeplickkkmifpicbpcc
This extension finds all links on a page, ignoring ones that start with #, ftp, javascript, and mailto. Hovering over one of these links, fades in a small icon at the upper right corner of the link. Links starting with "http" show the orange icon, whereas relative URLs show the blue icon. If you click on this small icon instead of the link itself, the linked URL is opened in a preview overlay within the current tab. You can then interact with the new page and even launch another overlay from within the current one. To close the preview, click on the X at the upper right or on the grey background outside the overlay. This leaves you back in the original page. Use this extension to preview pages without navigation or the creation of multiple tabs. (NOTE: some sites do not allow themselves to be run in frames/overlays and this will cause an actual navigation to the linked page).
If the link points to a pdf, ppt, pps, or tif file, clicking on the 'EZ' button will send the file to the Google Docs Viewer allowing you to view the file without downloading it to Adobe Reader/Foxit/etc. This means you don't need to run a separate extension for redirecting your PDFs to the Google Viewer, although you certainly can run these alongside ezLinkPreview Modal.

- (2021-05-01) Han Solo: The EZ pop-up icon appears all the time, often right on top (!?) of the icon I try to click on. It's ultra annoying.
- (2021-03-28) Jav Bukkake: 1/ I need to click on an icon 2/ Fading animation to darker the background 3/ Pop-up animation for the webpage 4/ Loading of the page. It takes MORE time to preview a page with this new version than to open any link in a new tab with the middle mouse button. EZLink Preview (Regular) was a GREAT, really great extension. And now it's useless.
- (2020-11-10) P A: Fantastic, you can view PDFs, websites etc like iFrames its awesome! Wish there was a setting to chose what it shows on maybe like exclude links and only show on PDF links stuff like that.
- (2020-10-31) Kang MR: If there is a mouse hovering over the link, it will automatically open within one second, and the mouse movement will automatically close. The most important thing is to control the size and position of the page to the lower right corner, thank you
- (2020-10-05) josh wanner: I like it, works great for previewing google doc links and editing from within a master google doc document for example. Would be amazing if it worked with instagram, and allowed me to preview youtube videos from within emails, etc etc. But, I really like it :)

- (2013-03-07) Riaz Ali: I've now spent a while using both ezLinkPreview versions, regular and modal. It seems that the modal version looks better and uses screen space more optimally, but behaves as slowly as opening a new tab and loading a page would. The regular (non-modal) version is extremely fast and loads almost every link and contents instantly. This speed changes the entire browsing experience and there's no link left unvisited since there's no slowdown for waiting anymore. I have gone back to using the regular. I'm not sure what the coding difference between the two is, but if the modal version could have the speed and options of the regular, it would be the perfect combination. I made Chrome the default browser mainly just for ezLinkPreview. I am using the alt-mouse hover (mapped to a mouse hotkey) with ezlink icon hidden options.
