The Bechdel Test is a tongue-in-cheek benchmark for basic female content in movies. For a movie to pass, it must contain just one thing – a scene in which two or more named female characters have a conversation about anything at all besides men. Despite its simple criteria, the vast majority of Hollywood films - from Star Wars to Lord of the Rings - fail the test.
