Description from extension meta

Briticise Your Web

Description from store Are you an American who prefers to see words spelt in a British fashion, or a Brit who can't stand the way Americans spell many words incorrectly all over the internet? Then this is an app you should install. Or not, it's up to you. Briticism corrects the American spelling of many words, giving you the pure, unadulterated, and often archaeic British spelling.

  • (2018-03-10) Finn Gardiner: This is a good extension. I can't stand American spellings and prefer not to see them. I'm glad to have a convenient way to get rid of them without inputting them all myself into a word filter. As as a few other people have noted, there are some false flags that need to be edited. For example, 'checks' is correct when saying something like 'she checks to make sure her spelling is correct', but NOT when talking about a bank cheque. -ise spellings are more common in everyday usage in the UK and Australia, but the Oxford English Dictionary prefers -ize, so -ize endings aren't strictly American (though -lyze ones are!). 'Gram' and 'gramme' are both correct. The various spellings of yoghurt/yogurt/yoghourt are a matter of preference rather than dialect, though yoghurt and yoghourt are commoner outside the US.
  • (2017-05-17) Sebastian “Seb” Devall: Worked well at first but keeps bugging. I have had to disable it now as it would randomly re-position my cursor to the the beginning of the text I'm inputting after every typed letter. Needs to be fixed!
  • (2017-01-18) Jai Sharma: The extension is overall quite good but still has buncch of false flags, (try googling the word 'f.ilter' (remove the dot)). It would be good if you could disable the extension on certain websites using a blacklist rather than having to keep clicking the icon. Overall, would recommend but still not quite complete for me.
  • (2017-01-11) Works a treat. It's great to read stuff on the web that doesn't jar because of spelling. It can't discern whether or not 'meter' is correct, as that depends on context, but otherwise it works really well.
