Make Gmail simpler, more capable, and more respectful

Image from store Simplify Gmail
Description from store A browser extension that makes Gmail even more simple, capable, and respectful. Simplify Gmail v2 is a total rewrite 9 months in the making. It goes even further to give you the best Gmail experience possible. WHO MADE THIS? Simplify was made by me, Michael Leggett (leggett.org), with some help from friends. I was Gmail's lead designer from 2008 to 2012 and co-founded Google Inbox. I've been writing Chrome extensions for years to simplify the apps I use but have only ever shared them with friends. With the unfortunate demise of Google Inbox, I wanted bring the simplified email experience to Gmail. IS IT SAFE? I'm glad you asked. You should always be super careful what extensions or apps you use with your email. Simplify is mostly some CSS plus a little Javascript to apply the CSS. There are no trackers. No data is sent or shared. No ads ever. Promise. And all the code can be inspected on Github: http://code.simpl.fyi PRIVACY POLICY Your privacy and the security of your account and data is of the utmost importance to Simplify. We have taken the strictest stance on privacy possible. Simplify has no ads, no analytics, no trackers, and no use of cookies. Simplify does not send or receive data of any kind from a user's account or device. HAVE FEEDBACK? Gmail has a lot of features and even more 3rd party plug-ins. This may not work for you and that's ok. For everyone else, I'll do my best to update the extension as Gmail's code changes and hope to simplify other apps in the future. You can send feedback or report issues via https://simpl.fyi/issue -- I usually respond within one business day.

  • (2025-06-08) someone somewhere: I have been using this for over 2 months and i absolutely love it. This extension along with Simplehuman extension have transformed my Gmail into a powerhouse
  • (2025-05-27) Youcef BELKHIR: Only 10 minutes I am using it, but already convinced ! Simplify will make you realize how much the GMAIL interface is messy... simplify it ! You keep the same functionalities, but in a structured way. Only 1 point I would ask (that is why 4 and not 5 stars) = on the left, the labels = can we keep the icons / reduced version ? As per today, May 2025, you hide the labels or keep them full whereas Gmail (standard) offers hide / minimize / hide. Thank you ! I am sure the GMAIL developers do not use GMAIL interface, or they are the users of Simplify.
  • (2025-05-03) Billy Jackson: Love the app, is it still being developed? Haven't seen a good update in months. Still on trial but looking at history, I am a little concerned on the life in this one.
  • (2025-03-23) Alex Combessie: Simply the best productivity extension for gmail and the best value for money. I tried expensive email clients like Superhuman, I replaced them by Simplify. It just works for a price that makes sense.
  • (2025-03-05) Javi Sánchez (BeHappy Co.): Just started using it. So far, trying to adapt it to my flow and learning how to improve it based on the extension proposal. It would be nice to have a better understanding on the "Snooze" feature. I was a user of Mailbox app (first time I tried to get inbox zero) and Inbox by Gmail (2nd approach). Since then, I am struggling to manage what it needs attention now from the rest and the garbage. I find that Gmail's heritage from these apps is not enough. As far as I know I cannot decide how much time I want "another day" or "later this week". I usually have to spend time selecting a specific date in "custom". We would love to have some more open snoozing options in order to combine them with label grouping, saved searches, etc. Does it make sense to integrate Reminders with Google Tasks? I would rather avoid to have "another" todo list.
  • (2025-03-02) Victor Dweck: Developer seems brilliant, but there is no Getting Started guide. There's a YouTube video on Bundles and specific features, but that's about it. If you're moving from Gmail to Simplify, you may be completely lost in how to transform your inbox. I recommend the developer created a Comprehensive Getting Started Guide to transform your inbox. Currently, my inbox hasn't changed much at all.
  • (2025-01-24) Robert Lichtenstein: I just starting using workspace and I really did not get much of a chance to test simplify and now the trial is expired. How can I get an extension on the software to test it further before purchasing ? How do I get in touch with the developer Robert
  • (2025-01-23) David Peake: Amazing extension for customising the Gmail interface and making it much more user-friendly, including the ability to banish the awful "Help me write" AI feature. Excellent!!
  • (2024-12-23) Tom Klaber: Truly Fantastic - for anybody who cares about UI - you will love this. For anybody who occasionally searches for a mail client because stock Gmail is ugly - but abandons because there are too many upsides to simply using Gmail - you will love this.
  • (2024-12-15) Sam Tsai: I don't know how to use Gmail if Simplify extension not enabled. It is that good!
  • (2024-11-25) FaviFake: Countering the "it's not free" reviews. Great extension!
  • (2024-11-21) Jaz Worrell: What a FANTASTIC extension for Gmail! I've been using Superhuman as my email client but it's very expensive. Simplify Gmail has allowed me to fully customise my email exactly the way I want it, at an affordable price WITH a bunch of features not available the way I was working before. I had the trial less than 24 hours before I purchased a license. Highly recommended!!
  • (2024-11-20) Emma Clayton: Interestingly when I uninstalled it, the toggles and settings were all still there and working in gmail. But I was actually quite glad this happened as it made me fiddle with the settings more, it was messing with my dark mode settings which I had carefully aligned along with my dark reader extension to make every email background dark along with everything else, I couldnt see a way to change it hence the first uninstall, but i am clearly just blind because when i fiddled with the settings i found dark mode settings and all was fixed but WITH the beautiful functionality added by this extension, absolutely love it, ignore my feedback in the uninstall questionnaire, I am very happy, thank you for making this <3
  • (2024-10-08) Tim Bamonte: Loving how much better the user interface is with this extension! Much easier to organize, track and work within gmail daily. Question.... one thing I've noticed, when you respond to an email, it's not stacking my response on top of the previous email in the inbox. Is there a setting to show your own responses at the top of the email thread as opposed to going over to sent?
  • (2024-08-01) Edward Hilton: Missing Google Inbox? Simplify Gmail is the answer! I LOVE this this extension that declutters your Gmail, bringing back the clean look and feel you crave. Michael, the developer, is amazing, constantly updating and improving based on user feedback. Do yourself a favor and try Simplify Gmail today!
  • (2024-07-31) Mike Brophy: I've been searching for this type of Gmail UI mod for a long time and love what the developer has done. I'm a paying subscriber to Simplify Gmail and, as a Chrome developer myself, I appreciate the care and detail put into the features. It certainly helps that the developer used to work on the Google Inbox team! Thank you, Michael!
  • (2024-07-19) Adam McMillan: I consider my Gmail pretty organized. I had auto-labels for lots of things (not everything), nested into top level labels like P1, P2, P3, etc. so that they organized well in my left-hand sidebar. I was reading about Superhuman (super expensive), and what it offers beyond Gmail, and the only thing that really caught my attention was this "splits" idea; dynamic ways that Superhuman splits up items in your inbox so you can more easily digest and deal with what's there. My colleague then said "well if that's all you're really looking for, you should check out Simplify Gmail". I installed the Chrome plugin, and felt instantly shocked by the change, and promptly disabled it. Back to the comfort of my very busy (but very functional) Gmail process. But I kept dipping back in. I toyed with the different widths. Began adjusting the controls that show up for composing new emails. Then I noticed how some emails were being bundled together (like splits), and the bulk actions I could take on those. But I didn't like the way some were in my Important section (I use the Priority Inbox as my base Gmail layout), and some weren't. I was not utilizing my automatic filters correctly. And that's where I started to get really invested. I renamed many of my labels and removed nesting (one small complaint is that the bundle labels are really short before truncation); if my plan is to hide the left-hand sidebar altogether, why nest anything? (though the nesting does give the bundle labels a cool effect of "Parent/Child" as the bundle name). I then peeled through my existing filters to properly categorize the returned items, as well as purposefully choose mark as important or not. I added a ton more filters, until nothing in my inbox was unlabeled (I learnt a lot from the Simplify Gmail bundle tutorial about how to create very workable filter queries). Looking at my inbox now, switching Simplify Gmail off and then on again, the difference is actually quite incredible. I thought I was cooking with gas before, but now we're running on nuclear fusion. I am only 1.5 days into this experiment. I have applied it to my work email and home email (Simplify Gmail privacy policy makes it very clear that it doesn't need to read your email to do what it does). I don't know where I'll be in 30 days, but so far I am beyond impressed. If only my Gmail iphone App worked this way too!
  • (2024-07-03) Andrew: How to change language to others?
  • (2024-05-04) Ian: update to Gmail Logo on the tabs to the new one
  • (2024-04-14) Stephani Halderman: Simplify has really taken the clutter out of my inbox. I didn't even realize how much all of the extra "stuff" in my Gmail Inbox was distracting and overwhelming my brain until it was gone and filled with white space. I'm in love with the bundles for like groups and the other ways to help me streamline/organize things that are logical and simple.
  • (2024-03-06) Brian Wanamaker: It's great to have some of Google Inbox's features back, plus UI improvements, support, and care! It's the first thing I do on any new account on a Chrome installation.
  • (2024-01-29) Dominic Symons: I've been a fan since day one and it just keeps getting better. I'm not sure I could live without it.
  • (2024-01-24) Chris O'Donnell: With the introduction of bundles. This extension is nearly perfect! Make Gmail so much better to use.

  • (2024-01-22) Charles Blaxland: This is an amazing extension and worth every cent. With the release of v3 which includes bundling (and much, much more), I finally feel like I have back nearly all of what made Google Inbox so great. Michael, the developer, is super responsive and fixes bugs quickly. Highly recommended.
  • (2024-01-21) Hans Gutbrod: Simplify makes Gmail a lot more pleasant to work with, have used it for years. Also really like the "Pause" Button, and hiding the Inbox.
  • (2024-01-16) Keith Stevenson: v3 of Simplify is a game changer with the addition of bundling. I've been missing this since Inbox by Gmail was canned and it's just such an effective way to filter and tame your inbox. It's also visually beautiful.
  • (2024-01-16) Joel Wells (Joel P Wells): One of the best extensions out there. Best thing since Google Inbox (which I have been missing dearly) Thanks Michael!
  • (2024-01-15) Alejandro Scandroli: It's amazing. It's truly simple and yet incredible powerful.
  • (2024-01-11) Gretchen Leslie: Can I give 10 stars? I never write reviews but I'm making an exception in this case. This app is an email game changer. It just makes things....simple (per the name). I was looking for a less expensive, less cultish alternative to Superhuman and this does all I want and more. It's so rare these days to find an app truly designed around UX but Simplify is. I can process all my hundreds of emails a day in minutes. Thanks for making this, keep up the good work.
  • (2024-01-11) Kyle Willett: This returns all the features I loved in Inbox and adds dozens more. Some I use, some I don't - but it's a massive improvement over Google's standard now. It's absolutely worth me paying for this, and I'm exceedingly thankful to Michael for thousands of hours of work that went into it.
  • (2024-01-11) Wiki Chaves: I got so used to Simplify that I can't go back to standard Gmail. Thanks Michael, keep bringing valuable updates and we will continue supporting you 💪
  • (2024-01-10) Jeff Zimarik: Mr. Michael has out-done himself yet again! =) I've been a very happy camper using Simplify Gmail extension / service for two years now and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! At work, I'm using my email all day long and he's transformed my inbox with all the wonderful bells and whistles one could hope for; all for less than the cost of a cup of coffee each month. I'm eager to see what more he has in store for us! =) SIDE NOTE: For those people complaining that the Simplify Gmail should be free of charge, I have 3 acres of land where you can come pull my weeds ..free of charge, of course =) Then maybe you'll realize the value of one's time and energy =)
  • (2024-01-10) Paul Silva: I live in gmail, and its clutter was REALLY an issue. This plugin changed everything. Been using for years. It gets better every year. I gladly pay for it! The founder is very responsive to feedback. Highly recommend.
  • (2024-01-10) Office GoLaunchPros: I love this extension so much! So worth the money. And I love the new update. Thank you so much for making this!
  • (2024-01-10) Carter Wilkinson: Have been a user since Google sunset Inbox. The new update is AMAZING. So nice to have bundles back for someone that uses filters extensively and has responsibilities across diverse functional areas.

  • (2024-01-09) Jason Borer: Love having a clean well organized inbox. Excited for the new features. Money well spent!
  • (2024-01-09) Francois Lopitaux: This is the best chrome extension. I was a in love with Google Inbox and this is the closest you can get without having to give access to email to another third party. It is well worst the money.
  • (2024-01-09) Jimmy Oligney: There aren't enough stars to indicate the usefulness of this extension. I would pay (almost) any amount of $ for it, but it's super reasonably priced. I've been using Simplify Gmail for quite some time now, years, I guess. It was brilliant before but the developer has taken it to a whole new level (V3). I used to be constantly searching for that "perfect" email app that would fulfill all my arcane requirements. Simplify is way more functional and, well, simple!! Thank you, Michael!!
  • (2024-01-09) Patrick Perkins: I've been using Simplify for years, so long that I kinda forgot I was using it. One day, it broke, and I saw the original Gmail interface. I felt like I'd time traveled to some distant past, painted in muddy colors in a cluttered layout, some 1990s dark age of the internet. I emailed Michael and the issue was resolved in a hour or two. If you value your time and want to use a modern, user-centric email platform, pay for Simplify. It's like wearing a watch—you don't know how much you'll come to rely on and appreciate it until you lose it.
  • (2024-01-09) Pedro Venturini: The only way to use gmail in the browser
  • (2024-01-09) Matt Griffiths: Been using this since it became available and it's a no-brainer! It's cheap (probably cheaper than it should be!) and it makes gmail so much nicer on the eyes. The updates keep coming and the support is quick! If you want to make gmail tidy then get this extension and buy a subscription.
  • (2024-01-09) Oded Harth: Love it! Makes Gmail usable. Keeps improving over time.
  • (2024-01-09) Florent Destremau: This chrome extension is the best way to continue loving Gmail. The latest update gives you even more of an Inbox vibe.
  • (2024-01-09) Florent Destremau: This chrome extension is the best way to continue loving Gmail. The latest update gives you even more of an Inbox vibe.
  • (2024-01-09) Brenda Johnson: Simplify makes Gmail so much more useful -- I've been a subscriber for years, and I can't imagine using Gmail without it. And it keeps getting better! Well worth paying for.
  • (2024-01-09) Alan Hoyle: This extension greatly improves Gmail. The experience is better than the default, and the developer is responsive to issues. It's well worth the subscription cost.
  • (2024-01-09) Pavel Sul: This is a required extension for those of us that wear many hats and hope to stand a chance in keeping an email inbox organized. Very much worth the cost because this is an actively developed and supported app. Keep up the great work, we're all excited to see what kind of awesome stuff you'll bring to our inbox.
