Explore the web and lookup articles you find on Ground News
Get a second opinion of the news you’re reading.
Whenever you come across a news article online, the Ground News Bias Checker shows you which news outlets are reporting on that story so you can compare coverage and make sure you’re seeing the full picture.
The Ground News Bias Checker can:
1. Instantly show you how 50,000+ news outlets around the world are reporting on the same story. Easily compare related articles from different publishers to verify information.
2. Give you bias and factuality rating for news sources reporting on a story. See if the story is receiving balanced coverage, or if it's mostly being reported by news sources at the extremes of the political spectrum.
3. Integrate with Twitter, Facebook and Reddit to uncover media bias hidden in your newsfeed.
4. Save interesting articles to read later and automatically generate in-text citations to support your research.
Developed by a former NASA engineer, Ground News helps readers think critically about the news they consume by providing context about the source of the information. For more in-depth analysis, try our website and mobile apps.

- (2023-10-06) Huahsin Hsu: Hope it can show scores of news resources like allsides. And can we see the basis for classifying these news resources?
- (2023-07-26) Adolfo Grosso: Doesn't work on facebook anymore, doesn't run on chrome or firefox.
- (2023-07-23) Douglas S.: It WAS fine until, and best I can tell, Chrome 115. Now it fast flickers at the top of the web page. I removed then reinstalled the extension but the issue was still there.
- (2023-05-26) Stefan Kuzmanović: Generally an amazing plugin, love the idea of checking political "alignment" of a website on the fly (factuality would be good to include too btw). But so often the plugin doesn't "activate" and show what it is supposed to, while it activates on sites like Youtube or tech stuff for no reason, just to say that (of course) it doesn't have political information about it. This needs fixing, otherwise an amazing idea.
- (2023-05-26) Eric Tremblay: I don't know what happened with the ground news bar but it mess so much with existing website designs it makes many websites unusable. I have no other choices but to uninstall it until this extension or chrome is fixed.
- (2023-02-22) alveolate hermeneutist (alveolate): cmon why the heck would ground news try to fact check friggin steam store??? and how long before you implement a blacklist/whitelist function??? it's terrible that such a potentially useful extension has such a debilitating self-sabotaging impairment, which should be quite easy to fix since so many good extensions already have include/exclude functions. 1-star because this has been a problem since day 1 and i've suffered thru it for MONTHS now. fix it yesterday.
- (2022-12-24) Omar Monnoo: The service is good but the extension itself needs work. It is missing an option to disable on specific websites. It's annoying when it shows up on sites like Wikipedia.
- (2022-05-02) Mel M.: This extension makes comparing news sources SO convenient. It's also always interesting to see who else is reporting on a story, especially when a story pops up on my Facebook feed.
- (2021-12-26) Kevin Luo: I like how you can see what stories are covered by different news outlets, and it gives you a bird's eye view of the information that spreads around the internet. However, remember to actually do research into the facts that you care about, and that not everything neatly fits into left or right "agendas", as we so often like to simplify it as.
- (2021-11-03) Aaron Clark: I love it, the app, about to DL the extension now. I hope that they can continue to grow and reach more countries and bring an open forum where you can get "your version of truth" but also see what the other side and/or observers are saying. In this time of inability to have debate while disagreeing, disagree without insult, and listen before speaking. The monopolization of our sources of information and the good business practices (enrichment for ratings, truth doesn't pay) of those in power has led to a divisive culture that needs help seeing that we are all being taken advantage of.
- (2021-07-16) Nicholas Dewey: The extension is very good. However, I live in Australia and the entire platform has very U.S.-centric bias, so publications that are considered right-of-center here are considered left-wing. If there was a feature that accounted local perspectives this would be very useful and would make the platform an instant 5 stars for me.
- (2021-06-17) C Stanford: Tim Pool hooked it up. This is just the kind of extension I've been looking for for a while now. Thanks, guys!
- (2021-05-27) Dandan: On the information war Ground News is an excellent weapon to have. For the people complaining its not perfect... spare me... Your brain must do most of the work, the considerations of this extension are only there to provide you with a wider range of information
- (2021-04-24) Jared Tweed: Great for reddit!
- (2021-03-20) Brandon Woods: The Phone app is awesome, this extension is cool... but the phone app rocks!!
- (2021-01-13) Frazer Mapp: Fantastic concept, love it, but the extension doesn't work well with lesser known sources and news outlets that are foreign to the U.S..
- (2020-12-01) Selendra: Only works on the Major sites. Nothing flagged in my Facebook feed, Nothing flagged in Twitter. I opened far right wing "news" reports, nothing. This is a great idea. Needs to be more inclusive.
- (2020-11-17) Dominick Del Azodi: This is an amazing extension. Provides a bias rating for the new agency and gives references to all other agencies covering the same story so it is quick and easy to see multiple angles of the same story!
- (2020-11-06) Jon Hallett: Awesome.
- (2020-11-05) Daniel Winterstein: Good idea - flawed implementation: inaccurate ratings and limited coverage. I tested this app on my Facebook feed. It failed to comment on the majority of political posts, as it seems limited to only mainstream media articles. The things it flagged as "left wing bias" were mostly wrong -- e.g. the UK Government (gov.uk) was flagged as "100% left-wing biased". I wish!
- (2020-10-02) Kelsye Nelson: Great to check the bias of new sources online.
- (2020-09-16) Jordan Ilaréguy: Excellent idea! If only everyone could have this extension automatically applied to all of their browsers when they view online news; and before they share wild stories on social media platforms. Here's another idea; how about also having a reputation / truth / accuracy tracker for news agencies? For example, you can see if the article you're reading is from a site which is known to spread fake news, or simply from a news agency's website which may not be entirely trusted for its information.
