Right-click images to save as PNG, JPG, or WebP, remove white/checker backgrounds, or add white/black fills. Everything happens locally in Chrome. The popular "Save Image as Type" extension was removed from the Chrome Web Store, leaving over a million users without a clean way to convert images while browsing. Safe Image Format Converter is the trustworthy replacement: no tracking, no subscription, no catch.
**How it works:**
Right-click any image on any webpage and choose "Save Image As PNG," "Save Image As JPG," or "Save Image As WebP." The conversion happens entirely inside your browser using the Canvas API. The image is never uploaded to a server, never sent to a third party, and never logged.
**What you get:**
- Save images as PNG, JPG, or WebP directly from the right-click menu
- Adjustable quality setting for JPG and WebP (1–100, default 85)
- Set your preferred default format — it appears first in the menu
- Sensible filenames: `original-name-converted.png` so downloads stay organized
- Works on SVGs, data URIs, and cross-origin images where technically possible
- Clean, minimal popup for settings — no configuration wall
**Privacy by design:**
The extension fetches the source image (the same image your browser already loaded) so it can draw it onto a canvas. That is the only network request it ever makes. There is no analytics SDK, no telemetry, no account system, and no external server. Your browsing activity is not observed or recorded in any way.
**Free, no premium tier:**
Every feature described above is free. There is no upgrade prompt, no feature lock, and no subscription. The rate-us prompt appears after 5 conversions and can be dismissed permanently.
**Replaces:** Save Image as Type (1M+ users, removed from store)
