RunnieResume Chrome Extension - LinkedIn Profile Import & Resume Tailoring

OVERVIEW

The RunnieResume Chrome Extension integrates with the RunnieResume web application (runnieresume.com) to provide two primary functions:

1. Import LinkedIn profile data to create or update a resume
2. Tailor existing resumes to specific LinkedIn job postings

This extension is a companion tool to the RunnieResume web application and requires a RunnieResume account to function.

HOW IT WORKS

LinkedIn Profile Import:
When viewing a LinkedIn profile page, users can click the extension icon to extract profile information (work experience, education, skills) and send it to RunnieResume's processing service. The service uses AI to structure the profile data into a standardized resume format. Users are then redirected to the RunnieResume onboarding page where they can review and edit the imported resume data.

Resume Tailoring:
When viewing a LinkedIn job posting, users can click the extension to automatically tailor their existing resume to match the job description. The extension extracts the job details and sends them to RunnieResume's tailoring service, which uses AI to customize the resume while maintaining factual accuracy. Users can then access the tailored resume through their RunnieResume dashboard.

AUTHENTICATION

Users must sign in with their RunnieResume account (Google OAuth) through the extension's side panel. Authentication tokens are stored locally in the browser and used to communicate with RunnieResume's API endpoints.

DATA HANDLING

The extension collects and transmits:
- Text content from LinkedIn profile pages (when importing)
- LinkedIn job posting URLs and details (when tailoring)
- User authentication tokens

All data is transmitted directly to RunnieResume's servers via HTTPS. The extension does not store LinkedIn profile data locally or share it with third parties. Data handling is subject to RunnieResume's privacy policy available at runnieresume.com.

PERMISSIONS EXPLAINED

- storage: Stores user authentication session and job processing status locally
- tabs: Detects which LinkedIn page is currently active to enable relevant features
- activeTab: Accesses content from the active LinkedIn tab only when user initiates import or tailoring
- sidePanel: Displays extension interface in Chrome's side panel
- Host permissions (*.linkedin.com): Required to read profile and job posting information when requested by user
- Host permissions (runnieresume.com): Required to communicate with RunnieResume API for authentication and processing

Free tier users have limited resume tailoring credits. Additional credits can be purchased through the RunnieResume web application.

PRIVACY & SECURITY

- Extension only accesses LinkedIn pages when explicitly activated by the user
- Authentication tokens are stored locally and never shared with third parties
- All communication with RunnieResume servers uses HTTPS encryption
- No tracking or analytics beyond functional API calls
- Users can sign out at any time to clear stored credentials
