Forces new tabs to open at the end of the tab strip.
The New Tabs at End (v2.0.3.3) extension by itworks was removed from the Chrome Store for violating the Chrome Web Store policy.
This version updates the extension to work with Manifest version 3 and the latest Google Chrome Extension API. The code is open source and available on Github.
Version 3.0.0.1 - Simplified code. Hopefully, it will no longer jump to the first tab randomly
Version 3.0.0.2 - Update to Manifest 3
Version 3.0.0.3 - Add a three second delay in order to maintain tab groups
Version 3.0.0.4 - Revert changes from version 3.0.0.3.

- (2024-06-22) David Mortensen: Been using this for years and prob my favorite extension. WHY Chrome wouldn't do this natively is likely an example of large companies not being thoughtful enough to think of these things, or put them into practice. That said, there is an issue where this is starting to flake out and only works periodically; I've not discerned why that is the case. Still giving it 5 stars because it is thoughtful and I appreciate it. Updated JUN-24
- (2024-06-19) Gill R: [Oct 2021 Thank you so much for updating this - it's absolutely essential to the way I work in Chrome] Updated: 19/06/24 Three years ago I gave this 5 stars but, along with other recent reviewers, Ive found it has almost entirely stopped working. Every now & again I'll get a random tab that opens at the end but most - 49/50 or more - do not. Please resolve this.
- (2023-05-25) Scott Kister: I also frequently get the bug where the extension stops working. A workaround is to go to chrome://extensions/ and toggle this extension off, then on. Hopefully a fix comes soon.
- (2023-04-25) Eduardo Simioni: There is a bug, after some time running the browser, when clicking links in pinned tabs the new tabs are opened right next to the pinned tabs instead of at the end. The issue doesn't occur right after opening the browser and I don't know exactly what causes it. Other than that, it is a great, very welcome extension.
- (2023-04-13) Rhys Laughlin: This has been my go-to ever since Chrome did that silly update that prevented new tabs from opening at the end. Unfortunately, it no longer seems to work as of a recent Chrome update (March, I believe). I'm hopeful it can be updated at some point when the developer's time allows to fix what Chrome has broken... again.
- (2023-03-24) Csaba Pintér: I loved it until it seems to have stopped working recently with the latest Chrome. Please fix, thanks!
- (2023-01-17) At h: ok.
- (2022-05-25) Quin Shanley: Doesn't work with Tab Groups. It always opens the tab at the right most position. I'd like to open the tab at the right most when outside of a tab group. When it's inside the tab group, I'd like it to open to the right most within the tab group.
- (2022-01-25) Ken Adkins: Sad when you have to rely on other companies and individuals to make a supposedly "modern, market leading browser" more useable. Chrome/Edge may be the worst browser ever made, but with some add-ons it becomes at least somewhat useable.
- (2021-12-07) alex huber: Yes finally an updated for the violation version
- (2021-11-06) Julian Hebron: Thank you SO much for updating this. It's such a simple function, but absolutely essential for users like me who cycle hundreds of tabs per week (and sometimes per day!). I really appreciate you doing this :)
- (2021-10-22) Steve Gayner: Yes! A replacement for the now "illegal" New Tabs at End extension. Thank you, thank you, thank you. This extension does one thing - it puts newly opened tabs at the far right of all the tabs. That's it. It works. Did I say "thank you"?
- (2021-09-15) Bill Hogg: An essential extension if you have a sea of tabs open, which I often do. I know immediately where to look for the most recently opened tab. Sugarbranch, thanks for the update!
