In wezen vindt PaperPanda wanneer je het activeert de DOI van het artikel van de huidige pagina, en gaat het dan zoeken. Het begint met het opvragen van verschillende Open Access repositories. Je kunt ook het domein van je universiteitsbibliotheken instellen in de instellingen. PaperPanda zoekt dan automatisch naar het artikel via je bibliotheek. Je kunt ook een ander aangepast domein instellen in de instellingen.
