Its primary characteristics are as follows:
- Import and edit audio files, as well as combine them with other files:
* WAV, AIFF, AU, FLAC, and Ogg Vorbis files can be imported and exported.
* Import and export all libsndfile formats, including GSM 6.10, 32-bit and 64-bit float WAV, and U/A-Law.
* Use libmad to import MPEG audio (including MP2 and MP3 files).
* Use the "Import Raw" command to import raw (headerless) audio files.
* Make files in WAV or AIFF format.
* Use the optional LAME encoder library to create MP3 files. With the optional FFmpeg library, you can import and export AC3, M4A/M4R (AAC), and WMA files.
- Sound Quality:
* Supports 16-bit, 24-bit, and 32-bit (floating point) samples (the latter maintains samples that are larger than the entire scale). High-quality resampling and dithering are used to transform sample rates and formats. Tracks with varying sample rates or formats are automatically converted in real time.
- Online audio editing:
* Simple editing with Cut, Copy, Paste, and Delete; * Undo (and Redo) to go back any number of steps.
* Work with a big number of tracks to edit and mix.
* Each track can have multiple clips.
* Make a track list.
* Use the Envelope Tool to gradually increase or decrease the volume.
- Audio effects:
* Change the pitch while keeping the beat the same (or vice-versa).
* Remove any background noises such as static, hiss, or hum.
* Use Equalization, Bass Boost, High/Low Pass, and Notch Filter effects to change frequencies.
* Remove Vocals from Suitable Stereo Tracks. * Adjust loudness with Compressor, Amplify, Normalize, Fade In / Fade Out.
* Use the Auto Duck effect to create voice-overs for podcasts or DJ performances.

- Online Audio Analysis:
* Frequency visualization with spectrogram view modes. For extensive frequency analysis, use the "Plot Spectrum" command. "Sample Data Export" is a feature that allows you to export data to a file. The amplitude values for each sample in the selection are stored in this file. For analyzing volume average rms, use contrast analysis. Background music and foreground speech have distinct characteristics.
