Semantic Zoom – lightning-fast, in-place AI summaries

Cut reading time in half without losing the plot. Semantic Zoom is a feather-light Chrome extension that lets you “zoom out” of any passage on the web with Ctrl + Shift + mouse-wheel. Each tick instantly rewrites the selected text to 50%, 25%, 10%… of its original length, right inline with the original, powered by Google Gemini Flash 2.5.

⚡ Why you’ll love it

Blazingly fast – sub-second responses thanks to Gemini Flash and smart on-device caching.

Precise – summarize selected passages in place, rather than wading through a whole-of-document summary

Ultra-lightweight – no background tabs, no tracking, <20 KB packed.

Free to use – bring your own Gemini API key and you only pay Google’s usage costs (fractions of a cent per paragraph, with a generous free tier).

Privacy-first – text is sent straight to Google; nothing is logged or stored by us.

Progressive control – scroll to compress further or reverse-scroll to restore detail.

🛠️ How to use

1. Install Semantic Zoom from the Chrome Web Store.

2. Click on the extensions icon (puzzle piece), click on 'Semantic Zoom', enter your Google AI Studio API key and hit Save Options.

3. Highlight any text on a webpage.

4. Hold Ctrl + Shift and scroll down to condense (each notch ≈ 50 % shorter).

5. Ctrl + Shift + scroll up to bring detail back.
