Reading online can be overwhelming. Walls of text, distractions, and focus issues can make it hard for anyone to process information. Sentence Stepper is a browser extension I built to help. It changes how you read on the web by breaking text down into manageable pieces, one sentence at a time.

- (2025-09-07) Nathan Lyons: As a writer, I need to read a lot to gather research and inspiration for my writing. This add-on helps a lot with that! Thank you strike-another-match on Tumblr for making it and telling us about it!
- (2025-09-07) Michael Parrott: I'll give it five stars just for existing! It can be very handy even just to figure out where are or where you left off in a big online document. I've found it useful even though I'm 'technically' not ND. My hat is off to the author for sharing this! While it's probably beyond the scope for this, I'd love to see some more options for the highlighting style, like maybe having a box around the entire text, around the "paragraph" rather than the "sentence", if you will. Or even the option to edit or add additional, custom highlighting styles. It might also be nice for the UI "On / Off" toggle to more clearly indicated whether it is currently On or Off. As it is now, the "On" and "Off" buttons look the same except for the button label, and when the user sees "On" that actually means the plugin is Off. Some sort of raised/pressed visual distinction of the actual current button state or funtion might be helpful.
- (2025-09-07) Skyler: it works perfectly fine after testing it out, I like it and this is pretty helpful with my adhd since I can trick my brain into thinking that there's less text to read than there actually is, making it easier for me to read!
- (2025-09-06) Zorquil Fluffy: I showed this to my mom and she was positively thrilled to see this extension's existence! She's going to install it later on her laptop and use it for schooling with the grandchildren later, especially for one who's been having trouble keeping track of where he's at when reading. There are a couple of things she does want, namely the ability to click on or go to a sentence without having to keep clicking "Next" to get to the sentence she wants, and she would like some sort of bookmarking feature that could save where she left off on a site for when she has to close down her laptop to take a rest. While she hasn't been able to use it yet, she's looking forward to when she can because it's something that she knows would be extremely helpful for her. Thanks for making this extension, and I look forward to seeing it develop!
- (2025-09-06) Jess Mooney: I've just started using this and I'll come back and edit if I have any problems, but so far so good! I saw the instructions on how to use it elsewhere though, so I'd recommend adding that to the overview on this page if you can. This is a GREAT idea and will help me a lot!
