Description from store NewsGuard's reliability ratings for news and information sources help users make decisions about which news sources to trust—and avoid misinformation and disinformation. Our ratings, scores, and Nutrition Labels for websites are displayed next to links on search engines and social media platforms and cover all the news websites accounting for 95% of online engagement. Ratings are conducted by a team of experienced journalists using nine basic, apolitical journalistic criteria. Each site receives a trust score of 0-100, an overall rating level ranging from “High Credibility” to “Proceed with Caution,” and a thorough Nutrition Label report detailing the site’s ownership and financing, content, credibility practices, transparency practices, and history. NewsGuard is for personal use only. Any commercial, research, or other non-personal use of NewsGuard is strictly prohibited by our Terms of Service: https://www.newsguardtech.com/terms-of-service/

  • (2023-10-30) Kyle: I appreciate that NewsGuard's ratings are easily accessible but do not overwhelm your search results. The "Full Nutrition Label" page for a given publisher provides an in-depth explanation of the ratings assigned, though the formatting on this page could be better to allow users to more-easily find appropriate sections of the text (e.g., let me click on a red X to go directly to the substantiating information). This portion of the service also differentiates between outlets' TV, print, and online outlets if that is necessary. It appears that high-profile or particularly damaging/egregious instances of mis/disinformation will hurt a publishers score more than run-of-the-mill editorial slant, especially if the publisher did not issue adequate retractions/corrections. I'm a big fan of Microsoft licensing this service for inclusion as a free Edge extension.
  • (2023-03-10) john: Funded in part by the US Pentagon (it's on their website), this is clearly an extension pushing the agenda of the US government. Whatever the Newsguard rating is, you subtract it from 100 and get the true rating.
  • (2023-01-18) Austin: I like being told what to think and who I can trust by my betters. I'm too stupid to think for myself. Thanks to NewsGuard I never have to critically think again! Their sacred "Journalists" work tirelessly to censor all content that is divergent. Now I only read the safe news published by "Real Journalists" who regurgitate State Department press releases in a way that even someone as simple as me can digest and regurgitate to my friends and family.
  • (2022-07-27) Jay: Unreliable ratings. Clearly is compromised as a source for neutral information on newsworthiness.
  • (2021-11-22) Keiner: It's totally unacceptable that sites which to now follow leftish mainstream agenda are disqualified and reported and "misleading".
  • (2021-10-27) Roger: Don't read on without it. Best add-on for Edge- period.
  • (2021-09-27) Shandi: I appreciate being able to see why things are rated as such. Fox New online and CNN online are both rated as "maintaining basic standards of transparency and credibility," but neither "handles the difference between news an opinions responsibly," the latter of which I had already judged to be so for myself. I noticed that other bias-check websites find NewsGuard to be dead-center of non-biasness. I like that libraries and librarians trust it, too. I do think there should be a yellow checkmark for scored below 90 or 85, though. With the two sites I mentioned, one currently has a 69.5/100 and the other an 87.5/100. That's a pretty big difference, and it should be more obvious, in my opinion. I'm guessing they both still green checks because they are green for all but one or two standards judged?
  • (2021-09-18) [email protected]: Absurdly biased toward the left. Its working but in reverse. I know not to trust the green checks. This app is reported in Breaking The News book as even having red flagged breitbart merch shop; and identical transcripts on right wing sites will flag red while leftwing are green.
  • (2021-09-02) Kaelin: It's pretty great! I love it when I'm about to go on a newsite tentatively and then NewsGuard warns me about the possible shortcomings about what it might contain!
  • (2021-08-08) Ben: These ratings are so biased towards the liberal progressive establishment news sources, and against independent conservative news sources, it's disturbing. This app is supposed to expose the hidden agendas of news sources, but beware, there is a hidden agenda in NewsGuard, and it's not for transparency, reliability, and truth!
  • (2021-07-23) Nicolai: Very good for a quick background check of web-sites. Helps you to filter out notorious fake news spreaders.
  • (2021-07-02) Aaron: great :)
  • (2021-06-16) Ivan: Very handy and fair across the board. I recommend it to friends and family.
  • (2021-06-14) Jonathan: NewsGuard is objective but not inherently liberal. Conservative sources get high ratings, including the Wall Street Journal which is rated 100%. WSJ keeps its news and opinions separate. Many conservative outlets blend news and opinion, but even Fox News gets 69.5, and D+ could be considered a passing grade..
  • (2021-06-11) George: NOT TRUSTWORTHY. How can you possible trust this site when it only gives positive ratings to Liberal news sites. Not one Conservative news source has a positive rating.
  • (2021-04-03) Edward: This helps me find factual and trustworthy news. It is great
  • (2021-02-02) Ben: Phenomenal! Everyone should get this!
  • (2021-01-05) Austin: Great! Helps me find (((trustworthy))) news sources ;)
  • (2020-12-21) Derek: Works great. I couldn't be more pleased with News Guard. Right on time in light of the current news climate. Thank you!
  • (2020-12-16) Aashif: gg :D ;D good
  • (2020-11-20) Tonio: The best cross-platform media review I've used. Very very comprehensive with excellant service, dependable too
  • (2020-11-20) Josh: Fantastic service. This needs to be standard on all browsers as the need to fight misleading journalism is important. It would be nicer to make the criteria more granular, rather than categories on an all-or-nothing basis. Also a scale that demonstrates where a news site leans in terms of political stance.
  • (2020-11-15) 昕越: good addon
  • (2020-10-15) Matthew: Excellent service. I'd pay for it even while using Edge if they reviewed certain news articles and had a few more website ratings.
  • (2020-10-13) Kathleen: It makes it so much easier to verify credibility of sources!
  • (2020-10-02) Gabrielle: great product, especially with so much confusion and so many falsehoods relating to the ongoing presidential campaign
  • (2020-10-02) Alena: Anyone that thinks this is in the least bit unbiased probably thinks the SPLC is completely unbiased as well...
  • (2020-08-23) Joshua: Not bad, but a few suggestions: if you do believe bias exists, let users know what side the bias is (left/right), and how strong (slight, moderate, strong). Also, introduce a middle yellow rating between green and red for publications that skirt the line. Yellow could be from a score of 60 to 75, while green could be 75 and up. Another potential change could be awarding a publication partial points on a topic rather than operating on an all-or-nothing scale (such as if there are a large number of sensationalist headlines, but not enough to fail it on the criteria as a whole)
  • (2020-08-06) Trent: I've noticed inaccuracies on some conservative content.
  • (2020-07-23) Jonathan: Newsguard provides a valuable service and being able to get it for free in Edge makes it that much better.
  • (2020-07-16) Sam: simple, gets the job done!
  • (2020-07-13) Chauncey: I think this is certainly a step in the right direction. The only concern of course is people reviewing sites still has a core issue - human bias, but I think it's better than nothing and hard to avoid. Especially right now, with so much garbage flooding the web, I'm a fan of anyone who's out there trying to ensure education of the masses isn't done so incorrectly
  • (2020-07-11) Steve: Nice app!
  • (2020-07-07) DAN: Great app but they are slow to rate new sites that are submitted for review.
  • (2020-07-06) Daniel: Must-have extension that I tell all my friends and family about. One super mild complaint: I already gave you 5 stars, please don't ask me to rate you again :)
  • (2020-05-22) Marco: Perfetta.
Grandi!
  • (2020-04-09) Hayder: thank you Microsoft for bringing NewsGuard to Microsoft Edge, NewsGuard is really helpful in fighting false news, I love it how to shows when a site is showing false news, NewsGuard not only tell me this site bringing false news, but also explain why in details, I never knew NewsGuard, but I knew it from Microsoft, after an update for Microsoft Edge on my mobile, then I began to use it, and saw that NewsGuard was really helpful, so I was waiting for it to release on Chromium Microsoft Edge Add-On Store, and now, thank you, I finally installed it and I will try it for the first time on my laptop. 5 Stars for NewsGuard
ROFLPMP!
