AI-powered CTRL + F for easy document search

Locus — Smart CTRL + F
Description from store

Locus Smart Search completely reimagines CTRL + F (or ⌘+F on a Mac) so you can quickly find and organize information from webpages or PDFs using natural language. It goes beyond basic keyword matching by understanding your search intent and highlighting the exact sections you need—even in lengthy, complex documents.

Mix and match content from multiple pages, searches, and AI-generated summaries as you dive deeper into your research. Locus makes it easy to gather your highlights in a single “Action Drawer” and automatically turn them into interactive “cards,” helping you synthesize ideas without hopping between tabs or apps.

Need specialized AI help? Locus supports popular language models (LLMs) like OpenAI, Gemini, Anthropic Claude, and now, Deepseek in v3.0!, letting you switch to a dedicated AI profile optimized for your exact needs—be it academic research, legal analysis, or simple curiosity.

Whether you’re working with long papers, PDFs, news articles, blog posts, or online textbooks, Locus seamlessly adapts to most text-heavy web pages. Save time, stay organized, and hack your productivity by letting Locus handle the heavy lifting of searches and summaries—so you can focus on what truly matters.

I've never been able to log into this no matter what I try, and it is so utterly garbage if you don't have an account. Requiring an account for a simple extension is also ridiculous, but I digress. The page just infinitely loads when I attempt to make an account. It probably has to do with the enforced captcha that only has text loaded in. Fix your website.

lets you search THREE web pages per day. service is slow, and the idea of it is an invasion of privacy.

Locus has made *significant* improvements since the beginning of 2024 and I'm excited to see them build momentum. I was able to easily navigate a scanned 60+ page PDF to find the relevant sections pertaining to the 3-5 topic areas that I care about. This is such a breath of fresh air compared to locating a term in a table of contents, scrolling to it, reading it, then scrolling back to the table of contents, then scrolling back to another page where the key term(s) are formally defined.

lacks function to highlight just the synonyms, instead of the entire sentence

Locus is very useful for reading and searching long documents. Keyword search is hard to remember exact match with longer documents but with locus I can just use natural language which is much easier.

Great potential, but until they release the PDF support it is useless for me. Will stick around to see how this evolves!

Is there a reason why it keeps telling me to "Navigate to a valid page or refresh page." rather than allowing me to search?

Locus has been incredibly helpful for homework and parsing through long documents! More helpful than regular Ctrl+F because it shows you the context of what you are looking for as well.
