lavender new tab 🌙
lavender is a soft, minimal new tab for your browser featuring:
- live time & weather updates
- 12 background colors in calming pastel and rich dark tones (or bring your own custom color!)
- dynamic light / dark mode for adaptive viewing
- alternative UI layouts
- location-based weather fetching
- metric units & 24-hour time formatting
- options sync between devices using the chrome extension (optional)
this app requires the following permissions:
- chrome & local storage: used to store user settings. optionally, sync between devices with chrome storage.
- geolocation: used to fetch weather from the OpenWeather API (https://openweathermap.org/) if location is enabled.
this project is licensed under the MIT license. please feel free to browse the source code or use snippets to inspire your own projects.

- (2025-06-05) Ujwal I K: there are very few truly minimal looking tabs showing the clock and weather, this has definitely marked the spot in terms of design and reliability. No extra unwanted features, great selection of pre selective colors , can be customized, size of clock an weather texts are great for the tab window size in all- its minimal, you get what you want
- (2024-08-02) Elias VH: super cute and simple new tab extension, i saw this in a chrome theme repo on github and decided to give it a go and i love it!! only thing i'd ask for is the ability to put custom color codes, backgrounds and fonts as well as an option for a more detailed weather stack at the bottom thus far though i have been really enjoying this new tab extension!!!!
