DOS emulator

Image from store DOSBox
Description from store DOSBox emulates an Intel x86 PC, complete with sound, graphics, mouse, joystick, etc., necessary for running many old MS-DOS games that simply cannot be run on modern PCs and operating systems, such as Google(TM) Chrome OS, Chrome OS Flex. However, it is not restricted to running only games. In theory, any MS-DOS or PC-DOS (referred to commonly as "DOS") application should run in DOSBox, but the emphasis has been on getting DOS games to run smoothly. DOSBox also comes with its own DOS-like command prompt. It is still quite rudimentary and lacks many of the features found in MS-DOS, but it is sufficient for installing and running most DOS games. • (2025-06-14) Brian Hudson: it's been a while since I've used DOS so I'll give it a bit more time, but this emulator seems really buggy. When I type commands, the keyboard seems like it's lagging? Sorry if that's not the proper terminology. Also, if I ALT+TAB is pressed to switch windows, the command prompt in dosbox locks up and I'll have to x out and then restart the dosbox shell. I guess you get what you pay for

  • (2024-10-27) Callinicus A. Rimmonsrider: Not sure what happened but your file manager is completely broken, bro. It doesn't do anything, doesn't allow us to add folders.
  • (2023-10-18) P A PERDUE: Installed and it doesn't work on my Chromebook. It flashes then closes. Completely useless. Took something simple and turned it into a nightmare. Wish I could give it a billion zeros. Going back to Windows platform where there's a working version of DosBox available to use without the headaches.
  • (2023-08-24) alex pimentel: i cant seem to import any files, but it works.
  • (2022-04-23) matt: It was okay, however I do not know MS DOS very well, I'm a python programmer only. This is a 5 rating if I knew MS DOS. Amazing app, just do not know how to use MS DOS.

  • (2019-03-16) Always crashes trying to run fallout 1. works on magic dosbox. it still needs work....
  • (2019-01-26) Mark Aldritz Dela Virgen: It has a friendlier interface than the free version. It's more stable, and worth your money!
  • (2019-01-12) Paul Olm: I'm using the paid version now after exploring the free version. Very happy I upgraded, much more useful than the free version. Only issue I am having is getting the mouse interrupt to work on my Chromebook in QB45 program I wrote. Mouse works in the QB environment but my program won't execute because it does not recognize Interrupt 33. Any ideas?
  • (2018-12-05) Kuba Baton: Works with everything I can throw at it(doom, maniac mansion, wolf3d, duke3d etc.). It'd be perfect if it could capture the mouse cursor tho. Definitely worth the low price!
  • (2018-11-29) Brent: I Dont Know How To Run Things If Someone Tells Me How All Rate 5 Stars Thank You.
  • (2018-11-23) Keith Mann: Thank you for the latest application update. It works really well. Toggling between Window and Full screen operation is now great. Plus the mouse "fix pointer" option addresses the previous issues I had with Chrome OS mouse pointer and DOS game mouse pointer movement not being in sync. All my favourite Zork dos games, such as Return to Zork, Zork Zero, Beyond Zork all run exceptionally well. Excellent support.
  • (2018-11-09) Greg York (Lavender Crush): Amazing work! Totally worth it!
  • (2018-10-18) James Stover (Jim): Enjoying so much using this to play some of my favorite old DOS games on my Chromebook! Fantastic product. Excellent responsiveness to support issues. I tried another one of these that was free. It sucked. Spend a couple bucks and buy this one - it is so worth it!!!
  • (2018-08-19) Douglas V (Dwyloc): Unlike the other free version of DOSBox which just displays a black screen or crashes when games start, this one actually works on My Acer Chromebook R11. DOOM and Alone in the Dark1 both run at playable speeds with sound if you set the music sound card to none, and use soundbaster for the sound effects card. Descent also runs with out crashing, but as it runs at a speed of frames per minute, rather than frames per second, it is unplayable currently on my little ChromeBook. So off I go to see what other old DOS games and software I can try. :-)
  • (2018-07-31) Jesse Rogers: Works so good, thank you so much!
