- This is very frustrating! I purchased this computer from Best Buy today, and they offered this free 6 mo. subscription to Trend Micro. Downloading was frustrating! I needed a password or activation code, but Best Buy didn't provide instructions for either. I called Trend Micro. A lady answered the phone, I think Kristen. It took her 20 minutes to tell me that the activation code was the same as my serial number. I could hear a dog barking in the background and after 20 minutes of going to pages that I had already found myself, I was wondering if the tech support provider was even legit.

- It is really not as hard to install this as all the reviews said. It took me less that five minutes to install and activate this extension, and I did not have to email of call anyone to figure it out.

- MY GAAAAWD!! this sucks! and what sucks worse is that it doesn't have to suck at all!! the hold time of over an hour is an additional bonus that i could do without...unacceptable. considering returning everything from this purchase. Geek squad finally picked up...AND GET THIS, the guy just told me that i've got a chromebook so it isn't actually necessary to install the Trend Micro Security since chromebooks come protected. WHAT!?!? So then why was the TMS advertised as a free bonus with the chromebook purchase?! Why not have a bonus that is actually useful, what a friggin' waste of friggin' time. Definitely returning items now.

- I followed Ashmew's directions to create a Trend Micro login and activate the subscription using the BB code from our digital locker. Then, I followed Gigi Kerr's instructions to install the Trend Micro Chrome extension on the Chromebook. I couldn't scan the QR code that showed up on the Chromebook using the Chromebook but, even when I scanned it on my phone and typed the address in, it wasn't much help. Clarification from other posts... folks say to click the icon in the top right. For me , I had to pin the Trend Micro Extension onto the Chrome toolbar before I could click the Trend Micro button and log in. This was unnecessarily difficult to log in due to a lack of accurate instructions from Best Buy.

- I had the same problem many have described here. Thank you all for posting the solution. I realized that the 20 character Key Code needed to create your Trend Micro account so you can then activate the extension can be found when you login to your Best Buy account and then when clicking on your account name there is a menu item on the left called "Digital Library". Select that menu item and before clicking Continue write down the Key Code that is displayed.Then you can click Continue and before downloading the extension for Chrome Book you should open the installation instructions link. Follow the 6 steps in the instruction and you should then be able to install the extension and activate it. Interestingly, Trend Micro doesn't allow you to use special characters (at least not the & character) in your password. Not sure why they wouldn't allow that, but seems unusual for a company that sells internet security products.

- A lot of people were saying that this was hard to download but it took me half an hour. If you got a subscription from Best Buy like I did then go here https://mobilesecurity.trendmicro.com/utility/activation/enter_ak There you can enter the keycode that was sent to you via email from Best Buy. After that it will ask you to make an account. After you have created an account it will take you here to the web store. Then you will need to click on the icon on the top right. Keep in mind this guide is only for chromebook users. After you click the icon you will need to sign in with the account you created. After you do that the app will give you a quick tour and then you'll be all set. Hope this helped :)

- This was the worst, most confusing installation process & I'm of decent intelligence, completely turned off by this brand. Got from Best Buy, had to contact Trend Micro, who had to email me install directions - Be sure to be logged into an adult account or else you can't install (had to start over; installing on kids' Chromebook). I was salty when I realized that the 5 boxes screen 'Enter Activation Code' is where the 20-digit key code goes, 4 digits per box. Then you're directed to Chrome Web Store to add the extension (only adult accounts will show option). Don't bother with Step 2, no need to scan a code for Chromebook install. Finally, look in right upper corner - you'll see an icon to click, then accept & finally you're in business. I can't even believe I wasted an hour-plus when all they had to do was provide these bullet points.

- I had to get in-touch with tech support but figured out why the serial number from best buy that starts with a T did not work and how to fix it. had to go to: https://mobilesecurity.trendmicro.com/utility/activation/enter_ak and put in the serial number that best buy gave me so it would be registered with the company. After that it said install which it already was and then let me make an account with a password.
