Too many False Positives. Norton team apparently no longer knows what they are doing

I've just purchased this new security, i had previously a well known security that let me down twice, the value was around £899.00 on two transactions of my card, the company who was supposed to be watching me & account 24/7 365 days a year!!! SUPPOSED TO LOOKING OUT FOR ME ????? Definitely were not doing their job. But now i've purchased NORTON 360 & already i feel safer i feel safer knowing that this reputable company and name stands out more than any other security app, i was a previous customer yrs ago but left thinking the grass was greener!! How wrong i was, I'm just happy to be back with norton security, i no from the past they do an excellent job looking after customers. Previously with this company not once did i ever have a problem with norton, so this time " norton security you have me for life & that's a promise . kind regards Lee A

Don't know what idiot at Norton decided to remove site ratings from google, I have since switched to the MacAfee add-in which you can find here, lets you run it independently of the AV: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/mcafee%C2%AE-webadvisor/fheoggkfdfchfphceeifdbepaooicaho

Fordrake Review said it best. It was a good extension for years. But now Norton wants you to download another extension so that you can use them as your default browser search engine. Sorry Norton, no one beats Google search. I uninstalled this extension and installed Bitdefender TrafficLight. It does the exact same thing that Norton Safe Web use to do. The funny thing is, if you go to Norton's site they give this long to do about nothing, saying, that they can't force Google Chrome to show the results (green check mark) on their browser. It worked last month but not this month. Rethinking my subscription options! Bitdefender TrafficLight works with green check mark and all.

Used to be a good Extension, but since somethings are changing within Norton HQ, well now the Extension needs Safe Search to "function" which is doesn't even work properly with Safe Search. Sometimes it shows the rating of websites and sometimes it doesn't even with Safe Search installed, without it it simply shows nothing until you actually enter the website. Keeps sending many messages on top corner of the screen asking us to install more of their extensions to the point it becomes literally a cyber-harassment. Norton if you want us to use your extensions, make them good first... Safe Search is slow, doesn't give all the results it should, sometimes it crash web pages of it's own searches, Safe web doesn't show the rating on it at most of times... Why use something that simply doesn't work? Even their release of Norton 360 v24 was scuffed, the new version came full of bugs... it worked yes, but with a ton of weird bugs that made users wonder if they were still protected even. Almost as if they released a product that they didn't even try before giving it to their users... WE ARE YOUR USERS, YOUR CLIENTS, WE ARE NOT YOUR BETA-TESTERS NORTON... Honestly, I uninstalled it, then went to chrome security tab and turned ON the Enhanced Protection it's new version comes with. At least it doesn't harass me every 10 min. Norton, you're acting more and more just like the cyber-criminals you fight... what a shameful display

doesnt work on google searches. i will change norton

I'd leave zero stars if I could now that Norton are insisting this extension will only work if use their Search engine.

norton makes worse apps Not Working

Doesn't work any more. Norton has gone downhill and no longer cares about it's users. And going to cancel all Norton programs.
Des Moines Demolition
Blocking known safe sites and no way to add exception.
Dave Contarino
Very basic protection. No way to add exclusions. About 1/3rd of the time, the checkmarks do not display next to my Google searches. Have tried everything - uninstall/reinstall Chrome, uninstall/reinstall Norton, uninstall/reinstall extension, and more. It is just glitchy. BitDefender, Avast and McAfee all have security extensions that aren't as buggy.
Marcin Keller
Chrashes /extremely slows down/ google maps.
Andrei Nedzvetsky
no exclusion list!
S N
Blocks innocent websites. And you can't add an exception. There are other plugins way better.

Horrible, horrible, horrible customer service! Given different information and charging me $249.99 for something I already had. Will never do Norton again!!!!

I have Password Manager and Safe Web extensions installed on current versions of Google Chrome and MS Edge. However, Norton Security's Internet Security tab shows "Browser: No Supported Browser Detected"! I am quickly losing my confidence in the ability of your Extensions to safeguard my Internet browsing and password security. Please fix Norton Security, your Password Manager and Safe Web Extensions--or ALL of them!!

I never had an issue with Norton Safe Web till today when needed to access a new email page for volunteer opportunity where it screamed it was phishing and malicious when it clearly was not, so I proceeded and all was fine. PLEASE LEAVE ME A REPLY: How do you enlist a webpage as TRUSTED with Norton Safe Web so it stops unneccessarily blocking it when it is safe? I want to keep it on for all other searches and make it trust one website that it does not trust. PLEASE HELP ME OUT ANYONE ASAP. I appreciate it!!
Chris
Stopped working. The green ticks are not appearing next to the websites on Google when searching. Updated extension and Norton but no joy.
Tyler Rivard
DO NOT INSTALL THIS EXTENSION!!!!!!!! You will NEVER be able to do a google search again. Even if you uninstall the extension it will continue redirecting EVERY search to norton safe search page.

Try to turn off items they somehow store or add or download...it never works. Do it multi times...seems to work then it comes back. Also it takes at least 2 weeks to cancel them as I'm still trying.

love it

Blocks all Google searches now, either from the main Google page or just typing a term or site name in Chrome's address bar. I always get the same alert, warning me of a malicious page on boardsclick.com. I can click through the warning and continue on, of course, but it seems ridiculous for Norton to stop every Google search! It also makes me wonder if I've been infected by something that tries to redirect me to that boardsclick.com site from Google. Maybe that's the reason this is happening? If so, I suppose I'd be grateful. But this is still VERY annoying! The block/warning message doesn't provide any link to additional information, to help me understand what's going on. I wish this situation could be corrected, because I'd rather not turn off the extension.
William Skipper
Was ok, but they removed Banking Protection, so what's the point anymore? but see they have kept it for Edge.....Not happy,....... looks like they just removed from Edge as well.... Guess I will changing internet security provider...
Sumit Patel
inconsistent and erroneous report which does not any review before putting rating for websites .Also It does not have consistency with results at both extension and their webpage .

Where has this facility gone? I can not see any icons beside my search results, anymore. Did it stop working? Because the "safe web" option also seems to have disappeared from my Norton account panel, as well.
Dalibor Zdravković
Could you plese fix this annoying error: "Unchecked runtime.lastError: The message port closed before a response was received."?
홍혁진
This makes chrome image loading slow and sometimes makes the image not appear at all.
Aidan Carter
Generally a great extension to have on hand, but... Norton, why the hell are you highlighting reddit links as unsafe? Not links in reddit, all the links to reddit from the email digests sent by reddit. Please fix. Quickly. Also please make a very obvious way to report a bug.
Robb Woolford
It's marking emails as suspicious that aren't and gives no way to whitelist them to get rid of the red highlighting and warning pop ups.
Gen2 Bruin
Very glitchy. Doesn't work all the time and need to reload to get to work.
Dawg Breath
Just found that it has been using Norton compatable with windows 8 ? Can't seem to change. Back-up does not work. My Computers were hacked and a number of functions were shutdown. I had to but another software to fix problems Norton says they prevent. Even after fixing items disconnected. Norton did not up date to any great extend.

Security on web pages

Since the latest update Norton Safe Web behaves in a way that forces me to deactivate it. It seems that in case it finds a malicious link on a website it automatically redirects you to this malicious website (within the same tab) and then blocks the access to this website. The original website is therefore not accessible anymore even though the website itself is not malicious. If this is intentional to 'warn the user about a malicious link on the accessed website', then this is a bad design choice and should be given another thought.
Randall Smith
While I like Norton Safe Web it has been giving false positives with the most recent update as of 1/24/2022. It places a pop-up on my own posts from Facebook alerting me to a suspicious link (in an email). There are no links in the post, only hashtags. Hopefully, the developers read these reviews and can fix the issue. Currently, there is no way for me to whitelist a website.

As far as security extensions go, Norton Safe Web isn't terrible. It's a decent addition to just using common sense whenever you're exploring the web via search engine. However, I have begun to notice that it's starting to flag completely innocuous websites, like Patreon, and search engines, like Google, with caution notifications. It's a clear false positive that I have no means of remedying, and I have no idea why Norton refuses to actually do anything to fix this problem.

I go to a website with an Advertisement linking to "Malicious Site" So is redirects me to Malicious Site Blocked! page. So I want to continue but it takes me to the advertisers site which is still blocked. I WANT TO ACCESS ORIGINAL SITE But now because the a Malicious Advertisement I CANT!!! without going back.

It downloaded on my computer without my permission. I have no idea how long it's been there, but I just canceled my service a couple of days ago and now it's suspiciously on my device? After I most definitely didn't install it? Seems sketchy.

Love the extension 😀👍.Best chrome security provided by Norton. Blocks all insecure sites as advertised
SMmania
Absolutely fantastic its the only Norton Extension you need, all the other ones are useless or niche. Don't even bother with em, this one is the best for chrome.
James
It keeps on turning off. I needed to reinstall it every now and then.

Having a browser security system is quite important in our modern world of hackers, but this Norton extension is AWFUL. I am on my computer all day every day running various web businesses. I have a good sense of how quickly various websites should run. The moment I installed this extension EVERY website I tried to work with slowed to an absolute crawl. It made my work completely impossible to get done in the time I have available. There are plenty of competitors which have far better ratings. Time to start testing them.

Needs a reinstall every time I reboot my computer, needs a reinstall when turning it on for incognito, and sometimes needs a reinstall just because it stopped working for no reason. Fix your app Edit: It's getting worse

This extension is suddenly blocking a small site that i've used for years with my friends with no problems. As little as a few days ago, I used it with no issues. Suddenly a "known malicious site." We are a small community and we use it to host minecraft maps. Hardly malicious. I'm done with you.

It's okay when it works but it stops working after some time. Always have to reinstall it...
