- Optic has to follow a lot of important laws because it's an online image sharing site that handles personal data and processes payments. One of the key laws is the Computer Misuse Act 1990, which is all about stopping people from accessing systems without permission, planning further crimes, and changing data without being allowed to. This means Optic has to protect its systems from being hacked, people breaking into accounts, and data being tampered with. If Optic breaks the rules set by the Competition and Markets Authority, it could face fines or even jail time for the people involved and the company as a whole. The Data Protection Act 2018 is also crucial, as it requires Optic to handle personal data in a legal way, keep it safe, and not hold onto it for longer than necessary. This means having strong controls over who can access the data and clear rules about protecting it. Optic collects all sorts of personal info, like names, email addresses, payment details, and the images people upload, so it has to follow rules like being fair, honest, and transparent, only collecting what's needed, making sure the data is accurate, not storing it for too long, respecting people's privacy, and being responsible with the data. If there's a data breach, which is when personal data is lost, stolen, or accessed without permission, Optic could face fines, damage to its reputation, and loss of customer trust. Optic also has to follow laws about handling financial info, like the Payment Services Regulations and data agreements, to keep card details safe and prevent fraud. Then there are the health and safety laws, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, which require Optic to provide a safe workplace and check for risks to its staff. Privacy, confidentiality, and security are all covered by the UK General Data Protection Regulation, the Data Protection Act 2018, and the Competition and Markets Authority, so Optic has to protect user data, keep its systems secure, and respect users' rights. And because users upload images and videos they own, Optic has to deal with copyright and intellectual property laws, like the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, to make sure content is used legally and creators' rights are protected. If Optic doesn't follow these laws, it could face serious legal penalties, lose money, have problems with its services, and damage its reputation badly.
