Secure Exam Proctor
Description from store

Secure Exam Proctor is a tool created to increase accessibility to test-takers worldwide. It enables you to take exams remotely while protecting the value of your online degree/certifications. Here are some important things to keep in mind when using Secure Exam Proctor on your assessments:

1. Your information is completely safe - Any information collected during your assessment is encrypted with AES 256-bit encryption before it leaves your computer, meaning it cannot used until unlocked by an institution-approved representative.

2. No personal information is sold - Our privacy design means Secure Exam Proctor can’t see personal info, therefore there is nothing for us to sell to third parties.

The following permissions may be required to add the Secure Exam Proctor extension:

Read and Change Data on Websites: This permission does not mean the extension will read or change anything on the websites you visit. When enabled by your administrator, it allows the recording of tabs open during an exam.

Financial and Payment Information: Secure Exam Proctor does not directly collect financial or payment information from test-takers. This permission is required in order for our third-party payment processor to manage any fees for exams.

Capture Screen Content: If your exam requires it, Secure Exam Proctor can record your screen. This option is set solely by your exam administrators and/or institution, not by Secure Exam Proctor. Your browser will ask for permission to share your screen every time it is needed, and you can manually end screen recording at any time.

Manage Downloads: Secure Exam Proctor uses this permission to prevent test-takers from downloading items while in an exam. This only applies when enabled by your exam administrator.

Manage Apps and Extensions: Sometimes other apps or extensions can interfere with Secure Exam Proctor. This permission allows Secure Exam Proctor to check for issues and temporarily disable these extensions during your exam. We won't modify, install, or download anything on your device.

Display Notifications: Secure Exam Proctor uses this permission to display important messages during your exam.

Modify Clipboard Data: If your exam administrator has disabled copy and paste during an exam, Secure Exam Proctor will use this permission to clear your clipboard.

Identify and Eject Storage Devices: We won’t eject any of your storage devices. This permission allows Secure Exam Proctor to check that your device meets system requirements.

Change Privacy Settings: This permission is used to ensure your device’s browser settings allow us to provide support when necessary. Secure Exam Proctor uses a chat service that requires certain cookies to be enabled.

Now that I have used this for a couple exams I can confidently say it is miserable. My two main gripes with it are the forcing you to disable your monitors and the fact that when you are doing the desk scan your exam timer has already started. The monitor issue is such a pain. I tried turning my monitors off but that would not work. You have to disconnect them which causes your wall papers to be reset and your desktop shortcuts to be sent flying everywhere. The only reason this is not getting a one star from me is because I see the potential.

This is malware, its as simple as that. Its a spyware that monitors your activity during quizzes, tests, exams, etc. Now, I wouldn't be opposed to this if it wasn't for the fact it seems like it was made in one sitting. Just scrolling through all of these reviews, this plugin has many issues which I haven't had yet because of the fact I haven't been using it long enough but if I ever do I will let you know. It for some reason forces you into full screen after making you close all your tabs? You literally just cant right click for whatever reason, I can't think of anything that would be considered "cheating" with right clicking other than I guess inspect element but from what I can tell that's purely cosmetic. What really bothered me was the fact that it forces you to zoom all the way in, and the built in zoom feature misaligned the whole page, which is just a nitpicky thing but it was really annoying. Its all around just invasive, poorly made, and an awful plugin.

I was taking an exam on Canvas with Proctorio active, and towards the end of the exam there was suddenly an issue that caused it to prompt me to reload the page, and although I didn't do anything in response, it turned into the 'waiting for canvas' page and stayed there for quite a while. I messaged live chat tech support and she helped me to refresh the page, but apparently the timer was still active because when I got back to the exam (after relogging in to Canvas, because it had kicked me out for some reason) it was already over. What could possibly be the issue causing this? Every time I use Proctorio, the test logs itself out (saying 'network interception detected') once within the first 5 minutes and I would waste a fair lot of time trying to get back to it, even if the progress is saved. Save yourself and your grade, just avoid this. Ofc if your school makes you use this extension, so be it.

Even among other proctoring tools, Proctorio's offering is invasive with its concerning AI policies. Furthermore, it intentionally tries to disable itself on some Chromium browsers (Vivaldi and Arc as two examples) without reason. https://technicianonline.com/78410/opinion/opinion-im-done-with-proctorio-you-should-be-too/

thing s so buns and im paranoid that it will add a virus to my devices, texas tech should really choose a different thing instead of this, doesnt do its job and feel so cheap

feels invasive and told me to plug in my laptop when it was at 52% also had me unplug my second monitor completely instead of just doing its job and watching that I'm not doing anything on my screen also has plenty of technical issues this is genuinely just horribly designed and i'm so disappointed that this will be the standard for online test taking

I installed the Honorlock several times, but it did not work. I can see it next to the browser, but it is not activating. I have been trying to active it without success.

Crashed after 2 minutes into the exam! Couldn't get back in and failed because of it!

very unreliable, sometimes it may work with some not at all

Everything went great for me. I installed the extension without any issues, passed my exam, and then uninstalled it. In my case, I really can't say anything negative about it.
Ryan Ferguson
I agree with the sentiment- I'm not a fan of downloading programs that want access to all the files and browsing features of my computer. If it adds any balance, I usually just delete this extension after I take my exams, its not the worst to install and thankfully doesn't require a pc reboot to function. I understand that in the new age of education educators are trying to combat cheating and plagiarism, I just hope that they can find a way to do this without compromising the privacy of students while doing so.

Calculator has the most stupid UX design ever - and that's if it even opens up in the first place. There's a 50/50 chance this bluescreens my PCs (tested on all three computers I own) so I have to restart and go back through everything. "Next" button decides it doesn't want to work sometimes. And, like others have said, it crashes or freezes up randomly causing you to have to kill Chrome and restart from scratch. Garbage company.

crash in the middle of exam for no reason and I can't go back to the exam.

i don't think i've encountered an extension that has рissed me off more than this. even barring the privacy, the location sharing, the godforsaken webcam recording it does it's probably the worst extension i've downloaded because it just does not function at all. out of all the quizzes i've taken with the software i'd say roughly half have had some sort of technical issue including bugs i've seen *dozens* of other people report. Customer service is also thoroughly unhelpful in fixing any of these issues. because the software is inherently unreliable and no amount of troubleshooting is going to fix what i can only assume is a lazy development team.

Not good
Alayna Blakeman
super intrusive.
Kathryn Rehome
Not only is this intrusive (why does it need my location?) but it burns resources on my laptop like crazy. Normally i can run 12 tabs and watch a movie too and my laptop is fine. With this I can take a single exam with this extension on and my cooling fans kick on like my laptop is attempting a space launch and my battery usage quadruples. Horrible. I uninstall it as soon as possible.
Austin Wright
Reinstalled just to add a bad review. literal spyware why would my teacher need to know my location. The only reason the ratings aren't worse is because of a bunch of fake ones with one word answers like "good". Couldn't even look it up on the extensions store. would rate lower if possible
Joshua Showalter
Might just be the most impossible and intrusive spyware for kids i have ever seen. Does not work 99% of the time.
Jayden Amadis
This might have been the worst extension I ever had to install, and I deleted it as soon as I was done. Just so you know, the extension gets these permissions: read and change all data on websites, DETECT YOUR PHYSICAL LOCATION, modify data you copy and paste, capture content of your screen, manage your downloads, display notifications, identify and eject storage devices, manage your APPS, extensions, and themes, and CHANGE YOUR PRIVACY-RELATED SETTINGS. If this isn't spyware, then I don't know what is. I would urge your teachers/professors to avoid using this extension at all costs. But should you have no choice, I recommend covering your face and wearing sunglasses. And do delete it as soon as you are done with your exam. Please spread the message before they spam the reviews with bots again.
Ian Bell
Crazy intrusive software, the videos provided regarding the software's explanation (provided by my school) was both passive aggressive and dismissive.
Eleanor Boivin
it is the sketchiest extension ever. I am taking an IN person class so why exactly I have to take an online test is beyond me. It is basically the glitchiest malware to ever exist. It also does not return your tabs like it says it will. If i could give it negative stars I would.
B
If I am paying the money to go to school, then I should expect my school not use some trash, sketchy, info-collecting software off of Google Chrome.
Awuf Salam
worst thing this school has ever made me install, its so laggy and while it loads it wastes so much time
Kate Bishop
Doesn't ever work properly
cooper campen
I hope thos pos gets closed down. its sketchy as hell and my college prof makes me use it.
Aiden Geronimo
Absolutely horrific piece right here. If you're reading this, I'd like you to make note of what appears to be Indian scam bots, including one which appears to still have an AI response saying "here you go..." if you know what I mean. I plan to install this only when it is absolutely required for my academics, then delete it after each exam. I would rate this application a negative 42 if possible.
Tobi Okusami
This program is not very good. the id scn feature is faulty and there is little notice of what buttons do, such as an are you sure function
Nef 22
useless and cant get tabs back
Rease Phillips
When I have to use proctorio across several classes/assignments, it doesn't restore my settings/tabs after exiting the assignment, leaving me to manually restore the settings the extension should have restored upon exiting the program. I only use it as a requirement of my online classes but I wonder why these "required" programs have to be so buggy and unreliable for the students
Freddy Grexton
This is the lowest I could go but there should be negatives. this only has above a 2 because of Indian bots spamming the reviews. It is Invasive, Does not work well, and ruins anything you had up already. I would rather work a double shift at Walmart on black Friday in 2012 then take more than one test with this terrible program. Pro-tip, Uninstall it right after every test.
Ryan Miller (Ryin)
most terrible proctoring extension
Caleb Porter
Proctorio is a terrible proctoring extension, especially when paired with online content via McGraw Hill. The extension does very poorly when accessing proctored content through McGraw Hill. When a proctored assignment is accessed and the extension is used, Proctorio either opens a launch window, but refuses to display the assignment content (only the page that explains that I have the extension properly installed, but still does not launch my assignment), or refuses to launch the assignment altogether. The extension also either restores tabs incorrectly, or not at all. Overall, this extension is poorly developed and needs more attention to prevent these frustrations.
Zarir Zaman
I don't like this extension at all...
Nell Watson
Worthless.
Rajeev Swamynathan
The Proctorio extension offers a refreshingly clean interface and seamless integration that makes remote testing feel completely intuitive. It is incredibly easy to use and stays out of the way, allowing you to focus entirely on your exam without any technical distractions. Would you like me to condense this even further into a short "headline" style review?

Worst proctoring experience I have ever had.
