Citrix Workspace app for ChromeOS
This release is compatible with ChromeOS versions 143 and 144. This release addresses areas that improve overall performance and stability.
What’s new in 2511
- Integration of deviceTRUST
Starting with version 2511, CWA ChromeOS supports deviceTRUST integration, enhancing security through continuous device posture checks within sessions. This integration ensures only compliant ChromeOS devices can access Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops.
- Always On Tracing (AOT)
CWA ChromeOS now supports Always On Tracing (AOT), a modern diagnostic framework from Citrix that continuously captures relevant log data across the Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops environment. This feature simplifies troubleshooting for IT administrators and Citrix support teams by automatically capturing log data for user sessions and system events, eliminating the need to reproduce issues.
AOT makes logs easily accessible and readable without engineering-level expertise, enabling self-service diagnostics to reduce dependency on Citrix Support and improve mean-time-to-resolution.
- Default audio device selection
Starting with version 2511, CWA ChromeOS lets users select and save their preferred audio speaker and microphone devices from the session toolbar for each VDA.
This feature offers a more customized audio experience with the following key features when connected to a virtual desktop:
Device selection: Users can assign different input and output audio devices to different VDAs. For example, you can have two different VDAs, each using a separate default speaker (one built-in speaker and one headset). The exact audio device can be selected for each active VDA from the Preferences section. The selected device becomes the default device from the same session.
Configuration persistence: The system preserves the selected configuration for the next session, ensuring a seamless experience.
- Entra ID single sign-on support for VDA with Azure AD credentials
Previously, users were prompted for credentials when launching HDX sessions with Microsoft Entra ID joined VDAs because there was no SSO support for VDA with Entra ID credentials. This creates challenges for users who migrate from traditional Active Directory to Azure AD as their primary identity provider.
Starting with version 2511, CWA ChromeOS now provides a seamless single sign-on (SSO) experience for VDAs with Entra ID credentials. This feature eliminates the need for users to enter credentials when launching HDX sessions with Microsoft Entra ID joined VDAs, providing a streamlined authentication experience.
- Global App Configuration service v2 authenticated user group support
Starting with version 2511, CWA ChromeOS now supports Global App Configuration Service v2 authenticated user group support, enabling administrators to configure settings for specific user groups through configuration profiles instead of applying settings store-wide.
- Fixed issues
- When you scan with CWA ChromeOS on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) VDA servers experiences consistent delay or lag due to platform-specific connectivity issues that affect only ChromeOS endpoints connecting to GCP-hosted VDAs. Fix will be avaliable from CVAD 2507 CU1 onwards.[CVADHELP-29259]
- When a store with Azure IDP is accessed with CWA ChromeOS in KIOSK mode or accessed after the store is left to idle state, the end user might see an error - "Request Header or Cookie too large". [CCPHELP-13096]
- DPI matching does not work when the DPI value is set to less than 100% on ChromeOS devices. Sessions launch with autofit (100% scaling) instead. [CVADHELP-29886]
- Website tabs display incorrect page titles when you open websites using BCR (Browser Content Redirection) in a CWA ChromeOS session. [CVADHELP-30597]
- Known issues
- There are no new known issues in this release.
Limitations
- When you transfer files using Client Drive Mapping functionality from your local device to the VDA and conversely, data might get corrupted.
- When you start a desktop session using Citrix Workspace app, green blocks are visible on the display screen that blocks the UI. The issue might occur when you move an application window inside the launched desktop.

- I've had a lot of issues with the app crashing on my acer Chromebox between Jan 2021 and July 2021. Then it got better, then worse, and now better. Over the last week I've experienced no crashes. Lets hope it stays that way! --Update March 2025: It's stayed consistently good and I couldn't be happier.

- There is a common error when using either the Android app or the ChromeOS extension. If you leave the main window of the Workspace open for any period of time, then the main window times-out. If at this point you attempt to refresh the window you are greeted with the following message: "You cannot log on using a smart card.". On the Android app, if you select settings, then click Security Token, then click "Logout", you can reset the app, refresh & enter Workspace again anew. The chrome extension does not allow this, & the only way to logback into Citrix is by restarting your entire Chromebook. This is highly inconvenient if you are attempting to work from a Chromebook using Citrix, cutting into productivity. Please investigate & fix this. I suspect this is why so many people struggle to get Citrix Workspace working, as per many reviews.

- updated to 2312 and have several issues 1) the screen resolution is way too small. I cannot read anything on the screen without being inches from it EDIT: used Match Client DPI and this worked 2) there is a little green camera icon with some arrows that indicate it's turning around that I can only move to the side of the screen and can't get rid of EDIT: this comes up when I open Teams. Still don't know how to get rid of it it 3) Alt + Tab doesn't work in full screen mode, it will navigate only to my local windows, and if I hit it again, it will cycle non stop on the open windows within the citrix session until i stop it by pushing Alt again. I am using this in full screen mode EDIT: Ctrl+Alt+Tab and then using arrow keys and hitting Enter works in the citrix session to navigate between tabs, but this is clunkier than using Alt+Tab, and I wish I had a resolution for it 4) the only options to resize are phone or tablet, but i'm using this version of citrix workspace on a chromebook laptop. 5) my mouse pad doesn't work to scroll, it highlights text instead of scrolling. this occurs even when i exit out of Pan mode and into scroll mode 6) my keyboard on my laptop, the keys don't work appropriately. for example, Alt + Backspace key is usually used to delete something, but now it doesn't work the same way. EDIT: I've found that NO keyboard shortcuts for Chrome work in this version of Citrix workspace unless there is a setting I missed. I toggled the sync keyboard layout off and back on, and this is still an issue. This version is unusable on a chromebook. I am using ChromeOS Version 120.0.6099.203 (Official Build) (64-bit) on a Samsung ChromeBook Plus
