Voice Search provides a method to search by speaking. For example, just click on the microphone and say "kittens" to search for kittens. If you specifically want pictures of kittens, say "google images kittens". Want to learn more about World War II? Say "wikipedia world war two".
Voice Search comes pre-loaded with the following default services: Google, Wikipedia, YouTube, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo and Wolfram|Alpha. You can also add your own user-defined search engines. It also integrates speech input buttons for text fields on all websites.
This extension requires a microphone. Speech input is very experimental, so don't be surprised if it doesn't work. Also, try to speak clearly for best speech recognition results.
You may need to launch Chrome with the --enable-speech-input flag. To do this on Windows, right click on your Google Chrome icon (shift+right click while Chrome is closed for Windows 7 if you have it pinned to the task bar), and set the target field to the following value:
%LocalAppData%\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe --enable-speech-input
In OSX, it's a little more complicated. You have to create an Apple Script with the following code and save it in ~/Applications/

- I wonder if those people reporting that it doesn't do anything foolishly don't have their microphone working. Works fairly well but there are two things that would make it really good. First, give me a keyboard shortcut! Secondly, let me control what mic is being used. I have a condenser mic that requires phantom power (the kind of mic you see podcasters use). Normally I only turn on the power to the mic for zoom meetings and phone calls. But I also have a webcam for video. The mic on there is not as good. But I'd like to tell voice search to use that webcam's mic as I don't need great quality and the only "person" listening is voice search. With those two changes, instead of typing Ctrl-T for a new browser tab I could say hit the enter key on my num pad (which I rarely use) to initiate voice search. Please make it so!

- It's not clear what it's supposed to do at all and clicking on the extension just sends you to a page asking you to download an app on mobile for "unlimited access". The page has some buttons that don't do anything and the page itself doesn't have anything useful on it besides some advertising. It's just straight up broken and multiple people have reported it being discontinued. It might be because I'm using a third-party browser (Opera), but considering most of the most recent reviews are talking about the exact same issues I don't think that's the case.

Nevertheless, it still does not work on Chromium; the mic pops up and you can see it's receiving voice content, but then it just sits there and nothing happens, so I'm hoping to find one that does. Uninstalling!

- I just tried it for the first time. My experience is that it's a bit clunky. It doesn't let me finish my sentence and searches for the first 3-4 words I've said. I believe there is room for improvement.
