Immerse in your favorite TV shows and videos with Iago! Starting with Japanese!
Sign up to not only continue watching the videos you already love watching but learn with some real world examples at the same time.
➤ Supported on Netflix, YouTube, Disney+ (and more coming soon...)
➤ Watch, Review, Recall all in the same platform
We’ll do the flashcard making so you don’t have to! Iago automatically keeps track of the words / grammar you’ve seen and has built custom spaced-repetition quizzes for you to recall the content you’ve seen so far.
➤ The only platform that tracks grammar
We believe grammar is just as important as vocabulary — especially how easy it is to forget part of the structure. Iago tracks and will display grammar on the content you’re watching.
➤ Keep track of your progress globally
Progress isn’t bound to a list or deck anymore, Iago keeps track of your progress per word / grammar.

- (2023-10-12) Doinkaesthetics: A little finicky, but it seems nice. I hope you can add this extension to KickAssAnime.am soon, since that's my go-to anime website.
- (2023-09-28) NABILA KHOIRUNNISAA: I really love it! I'm a Japanese literature major, and this really helps me with my studies, whether it's my Moji, Bunpou, or Choukai. But, if I may ask a request, I would like the anime called Isekai Izakaya Nobu (異世界居酒屋~古都アイテーリアの居酒屋のぶ~) that is on YouTube to have subtitlesTT^TT Thank you very much <3
- (2023-05-17) Jasmine Ch: I usually don't rate apps or extension but this one is truely amazing. After years of studying Japanese without much result, I always wanted to learn through video which I enjoy (other than learning videos). Especially because Japanese is very different from text book one to the day to day language . This extension works perfectly on netflix and is probably the most complete one I've ever seen (and i've been testing plenty of them for ten years.) it even indicates the words by level of difficulty/series you've seen and can be easily found and learn through small quizz To make it really perfect, it would be nice to add the different kanji readings according to the words/meaning because it is regularly missing but a google search does the trick. It would be cool to be able to classify them by type of words (adjective/verb etc)
- (2023-04-28) Patrick: Its a good app, it show subtitles and you can hoover over them to learn more about the words, if it works. And thats the entire issue. It does not always work, sometimes the lyrics are just in Romanji and it shows no Hiragana/Katakana/Kanji at all and you can also not hoover over words to learn from them. You guys need to bugfix this ASAP!
- (2023-04-18) Juandito Batara: Currently learning Japanese using this extension. Subtitles are shown pretty clear, and the ability to save words and revisit them later makes this extension great for reviewing learnt words in certain videos.
- (2023-04-17) Shan Yeh: Netflix in Germany doesn't contain Japanes subtitle option for all of the animes :( Therefore Lago couldn't grab any data and is useless while watching anime :((((((( Only watching Japanese dramas are able to turn on Japnaese subtitle.
- (2023-04-16) Ela Cruz: I don't normally leave reviews for extensions but this has been such a useful tool so far! If you are learning Japanese and like to immerse yourself with other Japanese media, you definitely need to have this. It's super helpful to expand your vocabulary!
- (2023-03-14) Jozef Kromka: The extension is awesome for watching videos in japanese and also learning. I would maybe appreciate, if there would show hiragana above kanji in the quiz window as well. At least when the question is answered. It would be also great to see option for subtitle in furigana.
- (2023-03-12) L V: I didn't know any Japanese earlier today. But now with Iago and my IG sensei I past the JLPT N1 exam 2 hours ago
- (2023-02-28) - Ponysparkle3 -: This is so helpful! Only recent thing is that for some reason it keeps saying I'm not logged in when on Youtube videos, so I am unable to use it there. When I click on the icon to log in it takes me to my profile which is already logged in. Unsure if I'm missing something but if there's any way anyone might know how to fix this issue it would be greatly appreciated TT
- (2023-02-24) A M: LOVE This. Most of the content I watch are on Plex and Viki. Would really appreciate it if you can integrate these 2 platforms!
- (2023-02-23) JRC: This extension is genius, and incredibly useful for anybody trying to learn the language and takes part of their media. This will help incredibly for language learning, and would be just as useful for future languages such as korean. It helps a ton for learning new vocabulary, listening comprehension, and more. There are an incredible amount of features that I doubt would be included in a free google extension. Such as the bookmarking words for quizzes, thats a super useful feature. And using Iago doesn't feel like work or homework, you just passively learn. I look forward to seeing this extension develop. :)
- (2023-02-22) Hei-Jman: Just started using it but really excited to use it to help accelerate my Japanese language skills. Wish it was available on Crunchyroll even though I know it may be impossible considering Crunchyroll doesn't have Japanese subtitles.
- (2023-01-25) Serena Reese: I cannot wait for other languages to be added as well. I have tried other extensions for subtitles appropriate for language learning, but this one has the best user interface and logistics by far. Thank you.
- (2023-01-20) Nicole Lee: my most-used extension. it's perfect for if you're like me and love to sit in bed vegetating, but actually want to do something productive at the same time
- (2022-12-17) Moshi Mosh: Really cool, found it through refold youtube. I will likely move to this app. Really nice how the words are seperated, and the quizzes are really well made. Some Feedback from my side: Just one thing that bothers me: I really prefer the way language reactor shows the subs below the video. For example hovering over the words with lago always triggers the playbar in Netflix to popup, which is quite distracting. This is not the case when I move my mouse below the video with language reactor. Also dark mode would be kinda nice on your site, I think lot of people learn in the evening.
- (2022-08-30) kelly hsu: i can finally start learning japanese in a fun and engaging manner. i usually hate opening up duolingo because it just feels like i'm doing homework - with iago it doesn't feel like learning, it's like watching your favorite shows with greater understanding!! netflix and youtube integration is great and blends in very well. can't wait for other languages (korean!!)
- (2022-08-09) Colrosedeasly: Alex and Zero did an awesome job at developing and running Iago. My japanese is being developed while I watch my favorite animes. I can't wait for what other features they are going to add next!
- (2022-08-05) Coltyn Stone-Lamontagne: This feels like a fantastic way to bridge the gap between watching a show in Japanese with English subtitles and watching a show with Japanese subtitles. It feels super intuitive to use so far and I really look forward to seeing the ways that the spaced repetition and deck building tools based on words you heard in shows you watch will be improved upon in the future! The fact that the English subs are smaller makes it easier to focus on trying to read the Japanese ones and checking the definitions without spoiling the sentences meaning for yourself!
- (2022-08-03) Nicholas Verikios: Really love this idea. The integration with Netflix seems flawless and I really enjoy how the kana are highlighted and separated to denote separate words. I would really love a toggle to show the subtitles as they would naturally appear in Kanji but with the option to scroll over and read the kana, or have furigana to help people recognise the kanji be repetition, this would also de-crowd the subtitles on the screen with less characters overall.
- (2022-08-02) Alexa Q: This is such a fantastic tool. I have struggled with finding ways to listen to spoken Japanese that isn't "textbook perfect", something most apps just aren't equipped to help with. This allows me to watch some great shows and be able to pick up nuance and differences by character in a way you just can't do with anything else I've tried. It works great and I'm already picking up so much more.
- (2022-08-01) Jonathan Huang: Love the experience. This makes me more motivated to learn Japanese
