This is an alternative start page for Chrome.
On the main pane you will have your bookmarks taken from the Bookmarks Bar. To put new sites there, just bookmark the sites as normally - into the bookmarks bar.
Below it are the Chrome Web Apps. There is also a possibility to add your favorite news feed to the page.
This uses Flickr for the background photos. You can also specify your own background with an url.

FAQ:
Q: Where's the "recently closed tabs"?
A: It will there when it becomes available in Chrome extension API. In the meanwhile you can use Ctrl + Shift + T to re-open a recently closed tab. This is a faster method anyway.
Troubleshooting:
- Press Ctrl-R to refresh the page if something strange happens.
Some people have had trouble uninstalling this. There are many ways to uninstall a Chrome extension - at least two ways through menus, and one way on this very page.

Edited review This extension recently updated and has changed everything I loved about it. I really don't like this new format. I'm going to have to start looking for a replacement if it stays like this. Edited review 02 After ikkah rolled back this to it's previous version and it now works like it did before. I've re-rated it at 5 stars

Please return the look of the bookmarks (favicons) as it was before, or add the description when you hover the mouse over it, for the apps panel it looks good.

Just updated to 2.0. It's only showing HUGE icons and no text w/icons. I guess it's time to find a replacement for this to be released without any testing.

The plugin just updated, and now looks very, very bad. Favicons for links are stretched out and blurry (and stretched more horizontally than vertically), it gave me an alert that it wants read/write access to more things than previous versions, text in the bookmark bar is now too large leading to several elements being scrolled off of the screen, and a link/advert to some social network the creators are shilling has been added to the bottom. It's gone from a must-have to a total eyesore.

Жуть. Никакой иерархии. Тупо все папки с закладками раскрыла и вывалила мне их одним списком. Удобно если у тебя до 20ти закладок. Если 100+ это ужас.

Google apps no longer work on the start page. It'll be a great extension again once this gets fixed. It's still an attractive way to open up a new tab and have all my options organized. One of my favorite Chrome extensions.
I have used this for some months now and I like it a lot. The only problem I have is that the extensions for Google docs, sheets and slides do not work on this desktop, nor the Google files and a few other extensions too. All I get is an about:blank screen

My bookmarks are a lot of nested folders and subfolders. As far as I can see, this extension will only open the top level folder and show the names of the subfolders. You'd like to be able to click on the subfolders and get them to open, showing the actual bookmarks they contain. No luck, and this is a fatal defect for me.

It is nice, but it lacks of a lot of features... A nice RSS Reader could be a good item to add, or better yet, the possibility to connect to feedly. Also, addint widgets like to do list and so, and even better, possibility to take notes and send them for instance to evernote(though I use more onenote).
