- (2024-05-28) Rachel Hess: Installed for my new Chromebook... where? How do I open it? No instructions; doesn't show up in the 'downloaded' pop-up. I've been using it on my phone for several months now (a year??). Much rather use it on my Chromebook.
- (2024-04-15) Yanike Mann: Please move to PWA.
- (2022-04-29) Tom Bruno: What is even the point? Have to have a tab open for every workspace.. ugh.
- (2022-01-03) Kristin Palpini: it's 2022. nothing has changed. this is still just a link to the site. useless. uninstall.
- (2021-02-15) Ali Khosro: Very Disappointed. It does absolutely nothing (helpful). Just opens the slack website!!! - Chrome Store needs to have stricter standards so craps like this won't get here and won't waste users time - Slack needs really be ashamed to push such thing as Chrome extension. What I was expecting: - Runs as extension and send notification (based on preference) even if slack is not open in my browser - Be able to click on notification and get there It is very simple to develop. Why this?!!
- (2020-09-29) S: Not an app. It's just a link to the website. How does this even get put on here? Chrome OS still sucks all these years later.
- (2020-09-12) F D: This is virus. I installed it, but can't remove again. Terrible
- (2020-08-30) Alejandro Rodríguez: For a chromebook its an excellent and light solution (ligther than the android app or the linux container installation, perfect :)
- (2020-03-19) Michael Burchett: This is not an app, it is a bookmark to visit slack.com. I don't understand how this is categorized as an "app" when it is a website. As a website I would rate it greater than 1-star, but I'm rating its ability to provide the experience of an app.
- (2019-12-03) Ian S: Just a link to the website, not a standalone app (with a notification counter, quick switch, etc).
- (2019-10-28) Care About Climate Administrator: Slack, really? Great service, but this Chromebook "app" is (as others have said) just a worse bookmark. Save yourself the trouble, just use the website.
- (2019-08-13) John Francis: Glorified bookmark. Just open <yourcompany>.slack.com in Chrome.
- (2019-07-31) Trevor Sullivan: No native client for Google ChromeOS ... just links to the website, which I already had open anyway.
- (2019-07-03) Angel Nikolov: Added it and cannot remove. Why there are two apps with the same "Slack" name in the chrome web store?
- (2019-01-23) M: This needs to be more than a glorified bookmark. I'd love to see some effort on this, given more adoption of Chromebooks. Sure the Slack Android app works on Chromebooks, but it doesn't provide all the necessary features. The web does, except this extension needs some work. Please better support your Chromebook users.
- (2018-12-12) Victor Soares: useless extension -> no more than a glorified link to their website.
- (2018-12-12) Sam Wilson: As with others, this is a review of the App and not Slack generally. I agree with everyone else that basically wrapping up the Slack site as an "app" is weak. Notifications are working for me, but the rest of the UX of the app is a mess. For example, having the "Sign out of [your team]" menu option right above the list of other teams you are logged into causes me to regularly accidentally sign out if I miss it with my mouse. That's super frustrating. Also, having to switch between multiple teams in this manner is really frustrating compared to how Slack works on other platforms. Lastly, the fact that Slack's "call" and screen sharing features don't work on ChromeOS is super frustrating. I tried installing the Android app from the Go Store on my Pixel Book and that's not really any better. It also doesn't support the "call" feature. What's worse, though, is that it doesn't recognize when I hit "enter". I have to use the mouse to send messages or complete forms. Frustrating.
- (2018-11-20) I expected it will be the real application, but... If i select option "Open in separate window" and make a desktop shortcut, it will open as popup window. This is enough for me
- (2018-08-10) Craig Johnson: Don't expect an App, it's (as mentioned oft times in the reviews) a bookmark to the web version. Sadly disappointing.
- (2018-08-09) Nicholas Pham: It's just a bookmark.
- (2018-07-13) Bret Mogilefsky: I was looking for something that would help get Slack into a dedicated app in my Chromebook. This ain't it... I already know how to use bookmarks.
- (2018-06-04) Jeremy Brookley: Oh, I downloaded an extension so it can add a link to my homepage? Was kind of hoping for something more along the lines of Google Hangout's extension. Hold this one star for me while I look for a feasible alternative. Looks like you're busy not developing actual extensions.
- (2018-02-15) Ian Goggin: It's essentially a windowed version of the website. Performs fairly well, but the inability to do screen-sharing from Chrome OS makes it far less useful than it should be.
- (2018-02-13) SmilesBlue: it's just a shortcut :/
- (2018-01-16) evil witch: I was expecting the app to be launched, no need for a webpage option
- (2017-11-28) Kyle Wilson: Just a fancy bookmark, thanks but I already had that.
- (2017-11-02) John Schiavone: As stated repeatedly, labeling this an "app" is setting one's users up for disappointment.
- (2017-10-12) Holly S.: Can't even find it let alone use it.
- (2017-08-22) Lalnuntluanga Chhakchhuak: This is just a bookmark. So misleading.
- (2017-08-21) Alexandre C.: just a link
- (2017-08-03) charles sheinin: why bother.
- (2017-07-11) David Streever: It's not an app, it's just a link to a website. I love Slack. My star rating is purely for the 'app'. The worst part is I can't see all my teams at a glance! I have to dig through a menu. There should be a quick team switcher.
- (2017-07-06) Eugene Stepnov: Please, do the proper Chrome OS web
- (2017-07-03) Bonnie Faye Gibson-Brydon: This kept our study group connected and learning in REAL TIME
- (2017-07-03) yannis: In my office ,I can not upgrade my chrome. So I can not use the add-on
- (2017-06-27) Chris Eller: After you install this EXTENSION you will not find it listed in your Extensions! It does nothing. I need a LOUDER Slack notifier for my Chromebook. Slack offers low volume, quiet little sounds to let you miss new messages, even while your Chromebook and computer (both)( are at high volume. I miss Slack notifications all the time. So I always have my phone open to slack to see notifications as well. It would be so good if somebody would create a slack notifier which would hit a gong somewhere on earth that would be so loud the whole world knew I got a Slack message. Cute little tag notices appearing in the bottom corner of one of many browsers does nothing.
- (2017-06-27) Marc Püls: It's just a link and hence doesn't open Slack in a new window. Who needs that?
- (2017-06-22) Richard Laurenson: will not remove from chrome.
- (2017-06-09) Latha Malyala: Not able to use slack in Chrome Version 49.0.2623.110
- (2017-06-08) Chris Batt: Another instance of Slack over-promising and under-delivering. This doesn't even deserve the label "app", as all the other comments point out, but the fact that it's from Slack HQ is a joke. But who cares, they're the office darlings because you can share gifs.
- (2017-05-23) Anthony: Dumb.
- (2017-05-04) Book: love slack
- (2017-04-28) Marius Milner: Adds no value, it's just a bookmark.
- (2017-04-25) Olivier Melcher: I wish it had the same team switching UI than the other desktop apps. Instead of the team icons on the side, you have to go to a dropdown menu and switch team from there...
- (2017-04-25) Ethan: It needs to hack the user agent/version checks from Slack to get slack to open in web browsers they feel are outdated.
- (2017-04-10) Drew Kirkpatrick: I have far too many slack "teams" I have to join for work. Real pain. With this "app" I can only view one team at a time. No notifications for other teams. Oh, and it apparently doesn't save the teams. Open it back up, it's asking me to log into all of them again. Terrible.
- (2017-04-03) E. J.: Nothing more than a bookmark.
- (2017-04-01) Triguna Mutuguppe Sripathi: There is no app to install
- (2017-03-28) Even though the engineering focus is on the actual web UI, there are some decent easy quality-of-life improvements the team should prioritize. 1. Hide the URL bar when in standalone window mode 2. Chrome OS title bars should be themed (at least coloured) to match the slack theme.
- (2017-03-27) Joshua Boyd: It doesn't really seem like a Chrome app. It opens as another tab in the browser and doesn't seem to do anything that just opening slack in a tab normally would do.
