  • (2025-06-23) Sarah Fite: I have repeatedly tried to reset the language to English, but no matter what I do it keeps reading in Russian. There is no point in using it if I can't pick my language.
  • (2025-06-22) viro last: super easy Great
  • (2025-06-19) James Monty-Carbonari (Ryjak8): Your app is not working properly. I have the premium, paid service, and it refuses to let me use the premium voices! Very angry.
  • (2025-06-16) Lisajana Lynn: This app is Bait and Switch, do not get this. This app is only free if you want to use the horrible robot voices. The half decent natural voices - normally generated for free by Google - has a daily limit, and the premium voices are all behind a pay wall. They expect you to have your own API key, AND they want to charge you a monthly fee lol. Google translate - the web site - has some of these voices, completely free. If you want a truly free, completely open source AI voices, the Edge TTS Voices Chrome extension is what you want to download instead. Every single voice on Edge is natural and FREE. If you want more voices on Edge, you can find it on their web site.
  • (2025-06-09) Charleen Nicholson: Pretty Good! I need this tool for school, we do a TON of reading from e-books, and I would say 75% of the decent TTS chrome extensions were unable to access my specific book library for some reason. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars is I cannot just click the section of the text for it to start reading, there is another app that I really like that has everything this one has, just that as an extra bonus, only that other one costs a LOT more and I aint paying that much to listen to a bot read school textbooks to me. The varied voice options are pretty damn good also! Best ones I have found, other than the other extension I mentioned earlier... Ill pay 3 bucks a month for this!
  • (2025-06-08) keven johnson: This was great before they added the subscription model. disappointing.
  • (2025-06-04) Audrey Beck: Though I have an active subscription, the premium voices stopped working suddenly. I've sent an email to the support team but no response. To not have access to something I've paid for is frustrating. Update: Days later and still no response from support. Second Update: Many days later, still no response. Final update: Never got a response. Don't waste your time emailing support, they do not care.
  • (2025-05-24) Hector Flores: Only wish we had more free voice options but other than that it is very useful.
  • (2025-05-24) Chris Benz: SHORT: I played for a lot of other extensions BUT with Bring your Own key AND monthly subscription- without any warning in adnanced... Really? What a cosmic joke of modern AI services — they lure you in with promises, then slam you with hidden fees like a black hole swallowing your credits. You invest all the work generating an API key... That’s just the appetizer. AFTER THIS TIME INVESTMENT you get the Subscription popup. You pay for your tokens separate, sure, but then they slap on a subscription fee like a greedy space pirate demanding double tribute. In addition... And the kicker? You’re stuck with outdated English-only voices while competitors like Speechify deliver fresher, tokens included, and more diverse options. It’s classic bait-and-switch: overpromise, underdeliver, and overcharge. Welcome to the corporate galaxy where your wallet’s the real star they’re after.
  • (2025-05-21) Teodora Shaw: Too inconsistent in reading speed. Also randomly stops working and will stop reading website and you have to open them in a new tab.
  • (2025-04-30) NeiroAtOpelCC: Fundamentally works, but it breaks up text at odd places like the middle of a sentense. At the same time it completely ignores formatting (headers, titles etc) and end of lines (cr/nl) and thus is very hard to just listen to. You constantly have to look at where it doesn't infer a stop or where it jumps from a header to a title to a section of text. Needs more work. But on the bright side, it didn't break on me, and it is free.
  • (2025-04-21) Dominique Robinson: Three stars for now because it works sometimes but other times, it's a struggle. One of the main positives I will say about this extension is that it's better than some of the other ones I have tried using. However, that being said, as of late, it's been very glitchy/choppy. Instead of playing seamlessly, it seems to stop randomly or it will do these extremely long pauses before starting up again at random. This makes it more infuriating when I'm trying to concentrate on long paragraphs or book chapters for school. Along with this, it sometimes doesn't work on certain platforms that use E-Books. It would also be nice if there was a way for it to read PDFs.
  • (2025-04-08) Sead Hadrovic: works good, I am very satisfied
  • (2025-04-07) m pe: Won't work for Libby books with free voices. The voice in video isn't even available in the menu some chat GPT voice.
  • (2025-03-26) Vincent Bernard: not free
  • (2025-03-25) Laura Muller-Bot: This app used to work for me, although a little choppy. I'm not sure if chrome updated and changed it, but the app doesn't work at all now. I've tried reinstalling it without any success. Now the best it can do is read one part, about 2 lines, but it won't move on to the next part. It's completely unusable now.
  • (2025-03-22) D. Kay: It is a text to speech reader. It is free. It does what it should: read text out aloud. It has no wingdings. It is free. The voice is understandable when it reads. It is free. If this is not enough, there are subscription based text to speech readers. They are not free. Choose. This is the best non subscription text to speech reader currently available.
  • (2025-03-20) Barry Weiss: So far this application seems be very very rough, which makes me wonder how much of the marketing on their web page is made up as at first it seemed like they were highly recommended. However, the free voices just leverage the built and free voices you can use locally on your machine or from google so if you don't want it sounding like a robot you need to sign up for premium. So when I signed up for premium that was an ordeal too andI had to write into support to get premium to work. My ChatGPT API key doesn't work with their API and I had to write support again which this time they did not respond. I tried to cancel my membership and I get a Server Error 500. I really don't recommend this app.
  • (2025-03-19) Guilherme P.: No good voices available. Very outdated.
  • (2025-03-13) Jesus Jair Hurtado Campos: It's decent for a free extension. Beyond that, it weirdly pauses every time it finishes a line of text, which is annoying. Also not very good at all if your PDF has figures and equations since it won't recognize them as such and will simply spiel random symbols that are unrelated.
  • (2025-03-10) Baseet B.: Very bad
  • (2025-02-21) Gaurav Nagar: Perfect !! Perfect !! Perfect!!
  • (2025-02-17) Raanee Black: Better than the rest
  • (2025-02-16) Jesus Torres: As a new student, I need to read a lot. Thank You for gifting this fantastic tool to so many of us. Easy to install, use, and customizable.
  • (2025-02-03) Elijah Merchant: Works really well, really customizable too. You can set speed (up to 3x) as well as chose from a variety of voices (which can be further customized with tone). Can read directly from the site or you can highlight text for a specific section, love using it for PDFs I have to memorize. Works great for both school and work. Many language options too. Would recommend.
  • (2025-02-02) Paradise prime: God tier extension. My only complaint is that it cant start on a specific word.
  • (2025-01-22) Raquel Molinari: It worked great for me!! Thanks and congrats!
  • (2025-01-17) Wurps: Would be perfect but has a pointless limitation on max speed sabotaging the extension, 3x is not enough.
  • (2025-01-14) Anlin: Is this a bug? as soon i change the voice to amazon ones, the extension gets automatically removed from my chrome. tried this several times and the issue remains.
  • (2024-12-29) Nafis Eko: Very helpful
  • (2024-12-25) Madaki Library: for the poor people... verrrrrryyyyyyyy awesome.. thanks.. if i become rich i will donate to your cause..
  • (2024-12-21) jay ortiz: Works good for me, thank you!
  • (2024-12-19) Jamie Bennett: this extension is worth it, easy to use.
  • (2024-12-14) Michael Gallagher: This is the most frustrating extension I have ever used, and there are some bad ones out there. It starts talking when you don't want it to. It jumps up to the top of the document when you just found something way down the bottom, so you lose your place. It does not read in your Chrome tab, but opens up a separate window, which might be OK if it worked well. I gave up on it today when every time I hit the STOP button, it restarted talking 10 seconds later. From now on, I'll appreciate MS Edge's Text-to-Voice even though it has it's own problems. It must be a challenging feature to incorporate.
  • (2024-12-14) Praveen A V: Excellent easy to use Text to Speech extension. It has many options and flexibility. I tried many other extensions. They were either paid extensions, or had lacked options/flexibility.
  • (2024-12-04) King Loaf: The best free TTS extension by far in my humble opinion.
  • (2024-11-29) Vivian Le: works👍
  • (2024-11-24) lalith parvothinii: Made my time Super easy to use
  • (2024-11-14) g g: free, does the job
  • (2024-11-12) William Hutchinson: 11/10 doesn't work all the time, but its free and it works on most things besides PDFs
  • (2024-11-08) Phi Nguyen: The extension is great for multiple languages. For it to work, you have to highlight the text area. Thank you.
  • (2024-11-03) v613: I personally enjoy using this extension; it's a great competitor to Edge
  • (2024-10-30) Celina Spahn: It SUCKS. I wanted to use it to read a pdf book, but every time there's a line change it acts as if it was a different paragraph. Super annoying. The voice is terrible, I thought it'd help me focus but it distracts me more instead. Maybe I'll retry it in the future when AI voices are better
  • (2024-10-30) E: doesnt work. page full of words, and it apparently cant find any, lmao. even when i highlight a section, as it suggests, it still does not find any words. deleting
  • (2024-10-26) Kayla Roberts: It works well. Some voices sound better than others, but what I like best is that you can set it as fast as 3x speed, which is perfect for me. You get used to the voices after the first few times, anyway.
  • (2024-10-24) C: Less than 1 minute before uninstall. Kept jumping around the page when in wasn't crashing, and randomly started without me pressing anything AND WOULD NOT STOP.
  • (2024-10-14) Hayden Kraan: Works well, has some more natural sounding voices than other options. Can highlight text in browser and right click to bring up the option to read. Highlights text in a pop out box as it reads.
  • (2024-10-06) CAROLINE GANN: I have had read aloud for a few years but recently I started having problems with it activating. So I went in search of another extension to replace it. I tried several before coming upon this one! I have been using it for only two days but I have put it through the tests and I must say it performs far better than any of the others I have tried so it is now my new go to reader and the voices are much less robotic sounding and don't mispronounce names as badly as so many of the alternatives! I am quite enjoying this extension and so far I have not run into any "maximum free reading has been reached" like the last several I tried out!!
  • (2024-10-04) Sofia Liz: When I say, this is my at home teacher- I mean this is really helping me get through college. With ADHD I have a tendency of reading ahead or way too fast to even process what I read. The auto reader helps me read what I miss, I've been doing better. However I wish sooner or later there will be an update for a 3.5x speed, or more. 3.0 isn't enough sometimes. Love the text reader though.
