Unofficial OpenAI TTS Reader
This unofficial Chrome extension lets you select text on any webpage and have it read aloud using OpenAI's Text-to-Speech API.
Features:
• Select any text on a webpage and right-click to hear it read aloud
• Choose from multiple voices (Alloy, Echo, Fable, Onyx, Nova, Shimmer, Ash, Ballad, Coral, Sage, Verse)
• Customize speech style with optional instructions
• Simple audio player with controls that appears directly on the page
• Cost estimation to help you track API usage
Important Notes:
• This is an UNOFFICIAL extension and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to OpenAI
• Requires your own OpenAI API key - the extension never sends your key to any server except OpenAI's API
• Uses the gpt-4o-mini-tts model by default, which consumes OpenAI API credits
• All processing happens through the official OpenAI API using your credentials
How to Use:
Install the extension
Click the extension icon and enter your OpenAI API key
Select text on any webpage
Right-click and choose "Read with Unofficial OpenAI TTS"
Listen to the audio and use the controls to pause/play as needed
Privacy: This extension only uses your API key to make requests to OpenAI. Your key is stored locally in your browser. No data is collected by the extension developer.
