Chrome Audio Capture is a Chrome extension that allows users to record any audio playing on the current tab. Multiple tabs can be recorded simultaneously. Recordings can be saved as either .mp3 or .wav files. Users will have the option to mute tabs that are currently being recorded.
To begin recording on a tab simply click on the extension icon and use the interface or hotkeys to start and stop the recording. Once the recording is stopped or when the time limit is reached, a new tab will be opened for you to save and name your audio file. Make sure to save your file before closing the tab, otherwise the file will be lost! Check the options page for different output file formats and other features!

Note: Currently recordings are limited to 60 minutes due to Chrome memory constraints but you can safely bump it to 1.5 or 2 hours. Beyond that it will run out of memory in Chrome and stop abruptly. Sorry, this is a Chrome limitation.

- (2025-07-06) Good interface and it works efficiently but it often cuts off recording at about 75 minutes. If I don't Save quickly enough, it won't process the file. As a workaround, I break whatever I'm recording at 70 minutes but that's a bit of a nuisance.

No issues with memory. yet since a week ago I've started to have the same popping issues in recordings other people have had issues with. Nothing else is running on the PC I've tried multiple different browsers and even tried with my other extensions all turned off. Used to work perfectly but now I can't record anything without major popping. Tried on other devices with the same issue even on PCs better than my own. Uninstalling and reinstalling the extension doesn't fix it.

- (2025-06-05) Useful tool, with one critical flaw or bug: It doesn't detect the end of a video, so you have to specify the maximum capture time or monitor and manually stop the recording, or else it will record indefinitely until it runs out of memory and crashes. This wouldn't be a problem if you could specify any maximum capture time to match the length of a video you're recording, but unfortunately, it stops recording at 60 minutes if you specify any time longer than that. If this were fixed, I'd give it 5 stars.

- (2025-06-04) Its reliable in so that it works as expected and that matters most to me. Its basic with somewhat simple features... I count that as another plus. One thing! Learning curve - be careful not to have too many windows open or you can lose track of the recording windows. Either way, I give a full 5 stars because of the core working features.

- (2025-06-02) Doesn't work for some reason… No matter if it's saved as .mp3 or .wav, the audio recorded by the extension has random glitches and crackling sounds. The developer claims that the extension records exactly what is happening on the tab, but that’s not like this: I listen to the sound while it's being recorded, and there are no distortions at all — the issues only appear in the final recording.
- (2025-06-01) This is exactly what I need so of course it doesn't work. At least, v2.22 is broken. I set it to not have any recording time limit and to use high quality MP3. Then I started it recording a 368-minute program. Six hours later, when the program was complete, I manually stopped the recording, and saved it. It showed six hours recorded - but only 180 min was saved. Exactly 180.00 minutes btw. Because I really, really wanted it to work, I tried again; and it did the same thing again. [I see now that the exact same thing was reported by another user too, on Apr 1, 2025. How hard can this be to fix ??]

- (2025-05-28) My first day of use... and I'm very impressed. I'm an English teacher... and I'm creating dialogues in English for my adult students (who come from a range of linguistic backgrounds). In creating bilingual presentations, I am able to download the audio for the English version of the text, then versions in 3 different languages one after another, using Google Translate. So far, only one glitch... and not the fault of Chrome Audio Capture (for some reason a couple of phrases in Urdu peaked once or twice at distortion levels). This... together with assistance from my good chum, ChatGPT, is, I think, transforming the material I supply to support the face-to-face class... In a phrase, I'm chuffed to bits (In Bengali, that's Āmi ēkaṭu ēkaṭu karē khuśī hacchi.) UPDATE On the (brand new) laptop I'm using, some of the audio from Google Translate is peaking with distortion on a few syllables. This happens with a couple of languages: English and mainly Urdu. Sometimes Ukrainian. I don't know if it's the fault of the speakers in the laptop. And if it's on the original audio, I don't yet know whether I can trim these peaks out. The downside of this is that there are perhaps three or four phrases out of 28 sentences that are not really at the standard I would be happy with. So... can we put my 'chuffed to bits' on hold for a little while? Just to be above board with you.

- (2025-05-11) This is a review with an issue I'm having. I love this extension and it works perfectly - on my PC at work! I've been using it for months to record some broadcast streaming. But I recently purchased a new W11 laptop and added the extension. As soon as I hit record, the sound began dragging immediately. And that's the way it recorded. I made sure I only had the one tab open and the sound sped up, cartoon like, when I recorded. Anyone have any ideas? Or experienced this?
