Toucan helps you learn a new language while you browse the web. No classes, flash cards or study sessions. Just sign up and go about your day like normal.
How it works
➤ When you visit a website, Toucan automatically translates certain words and phrases on the page into the language you’re trying to learn. That way, you can learn words in your new language within the context of a language you’re already comfortable with.

When you add Toucan, it says that we can “read and change all your data on the websites you visit.” That’s only partially true. A more accurate description is that it allows Toucan to translate the words you see on a webpage into the language you’re trying to learn. While we’re sure you’re a super interesting person, we do not have any interest in tracking what you search for or what you buy. It’s just not our thing.

- Good! Easy to navigate and good for added practice while doing everyday task. An option to adjust the volume of the extension would be nice instead of having to turn down the volume on my computer. I'm using this along with the Language Transfer course which is FREE! This is not to be used alone but it's helpful for those days when you don't feel like studying!

- Muito legal a extensão. Você coloca ela e acessa seus sites normalmente, dai uma ou outra palavra ali no meio ele vai traduzir e exibir a palavra em inglês. Você clica na palavra em inglês e se já souber você marca o ✓ (já sei essa) e se não pode adicionar nas sua lista de palavras para treinar, além de conseguir ouvir a pronúncia dela ali mesmo. E você ainda pode fazer as lições que ele tem para aprender palavras novas por tema. Muito interessante!

- A good extension, but it does have a tendency to get homonyms wrong. For example, the sentence "He never looked back" became "He nunca looked espalda." The word espalda means back, as in the part of your body. However, in this context, the appropriate word would be atrás, meaning back as in behind. The full sentence is "nunca miró hacia atrás".

- So. This is most DEFINITLY NOT a rip-off of Duolingo. But I'll give some credit, I like the idea of a toucan better than a creepy owl. 💀

- pretty good extension I'm using it to help with my german skills when im not of duolingo the practice is a bit glitchy though wont let me practice

- Very useful if you're at an intermediate level with a language and you want to learn new vocabulary, but not especially useful if you are at the beginning and still learning how the language works. Learning new words in isolation like this is not terribly helpful if you're still new to understanding how sentences are constructed. Would be a lot more useful if it could translate an entire sentence. Also, you can't complete the progress tasks because there's no info on the site about any sort of Premium plan (the link just goes to your account settings) and the FAQ and Contact Us links go to broken pages. Great concept and has potential but current state makes it of limited value until you're further along in your learning.

- I set that I am a beginner. However, it keeps translating words for an advanced level; I'm mostly busy deleting words and phrases they keep translating, although I have no use for them, such as "political career". I can hardly add any new words to the ones I want to learn or remember. There is no option to add words by oneself; one can only wait that they, by chance, to translate a word that could be useful.

- Amazing app! I've been using it to learn Portuguese, it has been working so seamlessly with websites that sometimes I even forget I'm reading in a different language! The ability to click on the word and hear it, see the original meaning also really helps with the context. I wish I could see a European Portuguese version in the future, right now the app supports Brazilian Portuguese and while it's great, I do notice that some words are not the same as used in Europe, often leaving some locals confused and explaining that another word is used instead. Just some honest feedback!

- I was looking for an app that would help me learn Spanish on the go and Toucan caught my attention. It's been great so far as I've been able to pick up some Spanish while commuting and during breaks.
