Joshua Deltener has release Slick RSS and last update are in 2012.
I took the source code from GitHub to update it.
From original extension :

I was tired of seeing extensions use other websites to do their work. I wanted an RSS reader that was fully contained within Chrome and this is the result.

Features:
- Supports both RSS and Atom feeds
- Discovers both RSS and Atom feeds within pages (with finder installed)
- You can manage feeds manually or use a bookmark folder
- If you manage manually you can set a sort order and max items per feed
- Imports/Exports OPML files into the manager, or your bookmark folder
- Supports read later functionality (favorites)
- Supports custom date formats
- Can display read items as gray or title only
- Supports 1 to 4 columns.
- Supports blocking of objects, images and iframes in feeds
- Feed links always open in a new tab
- Slick, simple interface

Aj R 2024-09-03: This was an OK replacement for the old Slick RSS, which eventually stopped working. I had this installed but had not used it, and eventually migrated over. It was OK for about a week or two, then this also stopped working. A huge stack of feeds is now gone. Options won't save, every time I try to set them and click "save" going back to options shows my changes are gone (and some values, such as Update Interval keep blanking out). Cannot add any feeds at all, it's just busted. Possibly at issue, finding a console error: DevTools failed to load source map: Could not load content for chrome-extension://lloonpjjgockligalihhebapcafgbgef/fxparser.min.js.map: System error: net::ERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND

Ben Jiles 2024-01-05: THANK YOU for making a free RSS extension that runs locally in browser instead of requiring me to create an account on some RSS site. Plus there are plenty of options for customization. It doesn't need to look shiny. I just needed it to work -- and this definitely does. Thanks man.

JEC 2021-08-15: best one out of the 7 or so that i've tried. it's free, it doesn't ask you to make an account somewhere, you can change the update interval, and it has about 10+ other options that would make reading your feeds easier. hopefully this stays free and supported by the dev...

Jakab Gipsz 2020-07-21: The only feature I'm missing is font size. Currently it's too small, and zooming in the page messes up the layout. (Vivaldi browser) Otherwise it's a great tool.
