Help people in censored countries bypass censorship by running the Snowflake extension
If you want to help people in censored countries access the Internet without restrictions, consider installing and running the Snowflake extension. Once you install it and enable it, there's nothing else you need to do. Once the snowflake icon turns green, this means a censored user is connecting through your extension to access the Internet!
The only prerequisite to install this extension is that the Internet in your country is not heavily censored already.
There is no need to worry about which websites people are accessing through your Snowflake extension. Their visible browsing IP address will match their Tor exit node, not yours.
If you live in a censored country
If you live in a censored country and want to connect to a Snowflake extension, you do not need to install a separate application to connect to a Snowflake proxy and bypass censorship. It is a circumvention feature embedded within existing apps. Currently Snowflake is available inside Tor Browser on Desktop and Android, Onion Browser on iOS, and Orbot on Android and iOS. If you have downloaded and installed any of these apps, and they are censored in your country, you can bypass the censorship by activating Snowflake through these apps' settings page.

- (2024-01-29) Clayton Decker: This is one of the simplest things you can do to help fight censorship and uphold the right to privacy. Some regimes are more oppressive than others, but all will have their authoritarian moment. Thus, we must build resilient systems. This extension is a key component to that resilience. You can just install Snowflake and forget it. Snowflake uses a share of your unused bandwidth to create an encrypted onramp for others to access the TOR network without detection. TOR enables journalists, activists, and everyday citizens to browse freely and anonymously. The TOR Project develops Snowflake to ensure no privacy tradeoffs. I haven't experienced any performance impact.
- (2023-11-13) Bob Blaylock: I have finally identified this extension as the cause of some serious performance issues that my computer was having. Massive, excessing hard drive activity, dragging everything else down. The intent is good, but not worth the adverse effect on my computer's performance.

- (2023-10-21) Orpheus Lummis: Running it to contribute to Tor as public good.
- (2023-08-23) Milez Awxy: For those confused, this extension does not enable tor on your browser, it's just making your network as a proxy/relay to help others who are using snowflake protocol hide their IP.
- (2023-05-12) Josh Steiner: works well, causes no side effects. Love to see the little icon showing off how many are connecting through my box, very satisfying
- (2023-04-01) Kaelan: Helps fight censorship and I barely notice that it is running. But it would be useful if it showed how much data it has used. Also if you don't want to use the extension you can just go to the embed on Tor's website. (snowflake.torproject.org/embed.html) Overall I give it 5 onions out of 21 ogres.

- (2023-02-07) Archie: I like to think I'm helping stop internet censorship. And I may be, but I may also just be helping some kid bypass his school firewall. Either way, I support that cause.
- (2023-01-24) El Chykon: For the Internet without censorship! Are there any plans to develop a TOR browser extension? Not all use cases for TOR require the anonymity provided by the TOR Browser. Often, it is much more convenient and easier to use a regular browser.
- (2023-01-01) lord denti: Funktioniert einfach, tolles Projekt
😉 ============================================================================= For our English users🌹: This extension should really everyone and I mean everyone who lives in an uncensored country, install in Chrome or Firefox.🌹 You are not only helping people in Iran, no in every censored country. 🦋 Be it Russia, China, Iran, everywhere where the internet is accessible but censored and so no access to the Tor network is possible. Also, you don't need to worry about what websites are accessed with it.🦋 Because you are an inbound (input/start) node and not an outbound (exit) node, therefore the IP address of the Snowflake proxy routed through you will match the IP address of the exit node of the Tor network. But not with your IP address, because you are not the exit node! Therefore, quietly just install this small extension and do very big with little effort! 🦋 Namely, protect and preserve the freedom of expression and uncensored access of the Internet in censored countries! Help other people to ensure access to a free internet!🌹 With this you can do something even greater, solidarity! 🦋 To be solidary has the meaning that you pursue common interests and feel connected with others who have a similar mindset. Namely democratic (basic) values! To be solidary with people who are oppressed is worth gold! There are people who need our help, there are people who do not have this access to the Internet, as we have it! And with this, with Snowflake we can help these, oppressed people and it does not even hurt you and does not cost more money!😉 The loss of speed is only marginal, it is very little!😉

- (2022-10-18) Clayton Decker: Snowflake is one of the simplest ways to give users on censored networks access to the free internet. The browser extension creates an encrypted proxy, so none of their raw internet usage can be traced to you. It's an excellent way to make the Tor network more accessible, and I'd love to see an option like this for Android and iOS, aside from the Orbot app which can be a bit more difficult to configure, although more powerful.
