  • (2024-05-13) Dariusz Krogulec: Awesome for Chromebook and hdd that is mounted and connected directly to router.
  • (2024-04-28) Lauren Durante Conroy: Thank you for writing this software. • (2023-09-13) Santhiratan Mandyam: Without this app, I would not able to mount SMB v1,v2 Mount on Chromebook. Chrome OS only supports SMB v3. Very bad for developing world users, which is a HUGE demographic.
  • (2022-11-10) Myron Abolitz: Using the built-in ChromeOS Files app SMB file sharing service I could open files on my Win10 share but I could not write files to my Win10 share. Writing from other Win10 PC's to the share worked fine but I could not write from the ChromeBook's built-in SMB service. Now finally with this app I can write files to my Win10 SMB share! Only problem is that the date info on the files in the share are messed up. They all show "Today 5:00 AM", except for files that actually were written today, those show the correct time/date. Anybody else experiencing this?
  • (2022-08-22) Alexander “Alex” Dunn: Thank you SOOOO much! Trying to get my network drive on my ASUS router to work with my chromebook has NEVER worked, windows was fine. I tried the inbuilt chromeOS SMB file share but nothing. This worked instantly. Extremely pleased.
  • (2022-06-10) Greg Chamberlin: Wow! This works great. This may be a bit different than the typical use case. I bought a NAS from Buffalo that had SMB connectivity option, but could not figure out how to make this connection. Since this device was primarily geared for Windows, tech support was not helpful. I could access the NAS via their browser application, but wanted a way to do bulk uploads from my Chrome box. I could do this from my Linux box, but wanted to be able to do it from the Chrome box to do some backup from Google Drive. Found this app from a 2015 TechRepublic article. Entered the IP address, user name and password - badda bing, badda boom! and it worked! Thank you!!
  • (2022-05-21) Blue Eyed Genie: The only app that I have found works in enabling my Seagate Nas drive to connect to my Chromebook. One bit of confusion but maybe I just need to do some tweaking. I've added some Nas folders that I don't want to have on my Chromebook but I am unable to see how to remove them. Also I am unable to save files directly to the drive. Think I have to save them to my Chromebook, then transfer them to my Nas drive (I've not tried this yet).
  • (2021-11-22) Bob McRae: Works very well with Chrome OS 94.0.4606.124. Two inconveniences: 1. Does not persist between sessions 2. The name of the two shares are the same (Mount is by choice selection share name, but both are named 192.168.1.1 admin)
  • (2021-10-24) Suneel Gundlapalli: Worked great. Connects to hard drive attached to router. Chrome OS only connects to SMB shares version 3 or above. My router only supports version 1 and 2. This app solved the problem. Thank you.
  • (2021-08-10) Bill Cart: I can finally access the shares on my Synology NAS without DS File. Very Groovy. The google SMB app does not work for me but this does.
  • (2021-05-11) Kraig Daulton: Besides some crashes and shares getting unmounted I love this app. Its straight forward and does exactly what I need it to do.
  • (2021-04-27) Steve: Very handy app! I got it to work from a Lenovo Duet Chromebook to a USB hard drive attached to a Linksys router. The router supports SMB v1 only. The key was discovering that File System for Windows hangs if I mount to the root level of the hard drive. It will mount successfully, but hangs when I try to browse the contents through the Files app. But if I go through the router portal web page and set up shares to sub-folders, then I can mount the sub-folders and browse them. Bonus Tip: When filling out the fields in File System for Windows to mount a new share, if you leave the Shared Resource Name blank, then click Mount, you're given a list of all the shares to pick from. Pick the share that you need at the time, do your work, then you can right-click it in File and Close it. Bonus Tip 2: When creating the share in File System for Windows, if you click Keep to save it, then you can launch the app from the Chrome OS Launcher and select saved share. The four-star rating is because of the lack of documentation.
  • (2021-02-21) Mike Moore: I've been looking for a Samba compatible feature on my chromebook, the native version doesn't work (native version probably doesn't currently support SMBv2, but not sure). This add-in does support SMBv2 and works great. Only concern I have is it hasn't been developed further since late 2017. But hey, it still works ! great job !
  • (2021-02-10) Frank Wolthuis: Great app, works and is simple to use. Would be nice if we could give the share a nice name.
  • (2021-01-06) Demonte Bynum: OMG I LOVE IT
  • (2020-11-24) Keith Wallace: This app worked flawlessly. I have been trying for a couple days to get "Network File Share for Chome OS" program to mount my share to no avail. This worked on the first try.
  • (2020-10-25) EMid MSO: SMB1 Supported Lots of Chromebook discussion about problems mounting SMB1 file sharing. This app worked for me! I had tons of files on an old home drive which now has a new lease of life Neither the (soon to be discontinued) Network File Share for Chrome OS app nor the integrated 'Add New Service - SMB File Share' dialogue worked (I think these only work with SMB2 & above). I wonder if this is another example of forced hardware redundancy by software?! Hope this App isn't discontinued!
  • (2020-08-28) Vishal Gupta: This is great. Tested to work with both SMB 1 and 2 to access hard drive shared on a tp-link wifi router. Thank you to the developer!
  • (2020-03-31) Mickey Mishra: So YES its not your NORMAL Windows Network Browser. I will be making a full video on how to do this. soon. IT WORKS!
  • (2019-12-07) Alan Teh: Thank you for this extension, as it's the only one available which provides support for SMB v1
  • (2019-10-31) Ethan Spoelstra: Extremely frustrating that Google has now "built in" Samba/SMB support but it doesn't work with the majority of the (free and open source) servers I've tried to connect to, let alone trying to connect to the moving target of Windows SMB/CIFS that has changed with almost every new version of Windows that comes out.
  • (2019-09-03) Gary Volk: Refuses to reconnect to SMB share when waking up chromebook.
  • (2019-08-23) Bryan Gary: I've used this app for a few years - and it's always been a touch temperamental, going through periods where it wouldn't work and then mysteriously - it would. But I've not been able to get it to work for a few months or so. I double checked the local ip address of the shared directories, and I've tinkered with the login credentials and other settings, but no matter what I try it just won't connect. I've had somewhat better luck with Chrome OS's new native "network file shares" thingy, but it doesn't save the settings and keeps asking me to re-enter my user name and password every 5 minutes...
  • (2019-07-14) Roelof Steyn: Pixelbook. It doesn't connect to my SMB drive.
  • (2019-06-15) Abdulghani Abdo: It did not work at all, no matter I have tried, it also not able to collect any errors.
  • (2019-05-28) Paul Collison: It's good enough for my needs. Would love to see the ability to append a name for each shared folder in the future.
  • (2019-03-09) It works for me where others didn't. Great for the odd occasion when I need to pass a file that's too big for email or messaging from one computer to another on my home LAN (and I feel too lazy to get out of my chair and use a USB to transfer it :-).
  • (2019-02-26) John Blackledge: Absolutely brilliant. Worked first time. Look! There's my external drive attached to my router!!
  • (2019-01-12) Managed to get it to connect to a shared folder, but whenever I try to view any files This chromebook just says "some operations are taking longer than expected". It never actually opens the file. I hate network problems....
  • (2018-12-24) Tshiong-Iû Kang: It's worked, i used Chromebit and Seagate Central. but it played the video or film of frame rate not smooth.
  • (2018-11-23) This is a great app. I recently bought a new PC, so the old one became my home media center (i.e. storage for all the movies and TV shows). I installed Samba on the old computer, and used this app to connect to the shared drive. Now I can watch my videos on my Chromebook.
  • (2018-11-11) V Holley: This is awesome! This saves so much time with not having to copy files from my pc to chromebook via usb. This os GREATLY appreciated.
  • (2018-10-29) J Muller: It works for me to my seagate NAS, Thanks.
  • (2018-10-15) The Capn: App is garbage and support for it is non existent
  • (2018-09-05) I have been disappointed with Chromebook so far. I am so glad I found this app! It adds some basic functionality that makes this lackluster laptop more useable. THANK YOU SO MUCH :) :)
  • (2018-09-02) Jason Bottjen: Seems to work well. BUT if you map multiple shares, they all show up in the Files app as the IP name. You can't tell which share is which...
  • (2018-09-01) Gylver Wagnon: A bit disappointed. I have multiple Windows machines, plus a pair of SMB NAS devices. Everything can be seen from the other systems, including from my Android devices, but this app fails to find anything. It ought to be able to at least match Android systems.
  • (2018-08-10) Steven Rench: good.
  • (2018-07-22) Richard Wright: Thank You! And thanks also to reviewer Curtis Pogue May 5 2016 as a result of which I typed in the Server Host IP address and put my router name in BLOCK CAPITALS in the Domain Name space. My Google Network File Extension stopped working when it was updated to remove smb1. Am now listening to music and looking at stored photos all from my portable hard drive attached to my router. My Chromebook is much more efficient and user friendly again!
  • (2018-07-05) Anthony Gunia: Just used it to access samba shares set up on my Raspberry PI NAS, and works great!
  • (2018-06-10) Silvianna Cordova: cause i saw the comments that it worked it just did not for me
  • (2018-06-08) Phil Newman: Installed this on my Pixelbook and immediately connected to my NAS. Simple and easy to use.
  • (2018-06-06) Adam (SignedAdam): Love it, a few errors connecting every now and again but it works! and it works in chrome os!
  • (2018-05-27) Doesn't work. No instructions.
  • (2018-05-22) Federico Castañeda: My pixelbook hangsup when I want to transfer multiple files.
  • (2018-04-16) Mark Charsley: Works great with a samba share on a linux box (unlike the official Google plugin). Can't get it to work with a homegroup Windows 10 share though.
  • (2018-04-11) Patrick Mulligan: Please add the ability to provide a display name. multiple shares currently read all the same host(user)
