Description from store As a 14 year old with about 2k hrs in CS:GO, what are my chances of going pro? Five factors towards skill development and competitive application that I don't see discussed are very important: 10,000 hour rule. In general to be a master at anything you need 10,000 hours. As thoroughly discussed by other commenters CSGO has a multitude of individual skills including communication in aggregate. This means generalising 10,000 hours must be spent balancing all component skills. Practicing the correct way. There are two sides to this. You can practice your 10,000 hours the wrong way and form almost impossible to break bad habits. Also every hour spent practicing the wrong way does not contribute to your overall hours of effort. Baseline skill potential. People are suited to some things through genetic and environmental (epigenetic) traits. This will likely determine your potential cap way more than hours of practice in a complex task. Luck. (and making your own luck through determination). Sure, luck and determination won't have anything to do with your performance over the long term. But it will have a massive effect on critical moments that effect your trajectory. It will determine somewhat how you are matched in critical ranking opportunities like tournaments. And it will play a large role in you getting access to professional people to give you opportunities to shine. Enjoyment. It seems obvious when you think about it. But if you are enjoying yourself whilst practicing the above, you will get into a state commonly called Flow. That state will help create a reinforcing feedback loop that will do more to create and predict your overall success than any other factor (including baseline skill). Correct practice effort, luck, and etermination, will all come with ease. And in return you will be rewarded with more enjoyment through flow. And so it will repeat. I'm a 2500 hour Dota 2 player. And frankly I suck balls. I have not played in 4 years, and most of my hours were built playing for relaxation. Meaning I had been drinking, playing pub, and indulging in bad habits because they were fun. But in my chosen professional career I am very good at what I do. Purely because I took the above points seriously. If you want to be a serious professional at anything, I recommend two things you read before attempting to apply any hours of effort towards developing a career:
