I can't read the code but even if it's now harmful, once the permission is granted the developer could always change its behaviour in any future update. What a shame, I found it very useful. Please remove c&p requirement!

Non è vero che il browser controlla tutto; l'estensione funziona male. La pagina Nuova scheda predefinita di Chrome è significativamente più efficiente. Aggiornamento: fate attenzione a non installarla perché, anche dopo averla disinstallata, i risultati di ricerca appaiono sempre con caratteri più piccoli e titoli in inglese, quindi, diversa dai risultati di default di Google. Solo dopo aver disinstallato Chrome ed effettuato una nuova installazione è tornato tutto come prima: pagina principale google.it e risultati di ricerca corretti anche in nuova scheda. Ps: utilizzo il computer da anni e lavoro meglio di un antivirus per notare che le ricerche sono state modificate; ho installato 275 estensioni (a parte la tua) e non ho notato alcun problema; tuttavia, ho anche 2 antivirus: Kaspersky I.S. e Avast. _______________________________________________________________________ The top icons of this extension are highly practical and attractive to look at, but the address bar with the extension's default setting of one page hides the drawbacks: The link "Chrome-extension://mjfahldkpjhcnfbbmdhpjolcjpcfhcpj/google.html" switches searches to a new tab: the titles are in English, the search bar is different and the letters are smaller. Instead, if I enter google.it on the extension page and click "save," it is not saved, and I find myself with google.com. When I start a new tab and enter a search term, a modified graphical representation of the Google results always appears: a search bar with an unsightly design, results with smaller characters, titles in English, etc. Also, using "Search word with Google", is also changed from the context menu. I suggest submitting the report to Google. Uninstalled. Other users have they confirm the same change: FatheredPuma81, Deb Prentice, IntellivisionDude Plimpton, I like Portal 2 ΔΔΔ. It's not true that the browser controls everything, but is because the addon doesn't work. The default New Tab page in Chrome is far more effective. Update:  be careful not to install it because the search results always display with smaller fonts and titles in English, which is different from the default Google results. This persists even after removing it. Only after uninstalling Chrome and installing it again did everything return to normal, including the right search results in the new tab and the home page of google.it. P.S. I've been using the computer for years; it works better than an antivirus program to detect that searches have been changed; I've installed 275 extensions (apart from yours) and haven't noticed any issues; additionally, I keep Kaspersky Internet Security and Avast antivirus software running.

• (2023-05-11) Most Guitars Wins: Great extension! It works perfectly on Vivaldi however in Microsoft Edge the new tab opens with a white background. I have the system set to dark mode and if I just load google.com in Edge it has a dark background. Is there a way to force the dark background? Thanks!
• (2023-03-11) Jeff Parr: I am using it in Opera. And it works great. I am using it to override Opera's silly override of custom speed dial in a new tab. This is to use FVD Speed Dial. Just one suggestion. When new tab is loaded, would that be possible to highlight in browser address bar and extension URL/page address selected in Custom URL in options? Reason: it would allow user to start typing a search phrase immediately after selecting a new tab. Current Focus on Address Bar just adds caret at the end of URL
• (2022-10-05) I like Portal 2 ΔΔΔ: great, but is there a way to make search bar empty after opening a new tab? there's a feature for focusing on url, but i am used to opening a new tab and typing immediatly, only to then realise, that my search looks like this: "pncpfofkienlinhfknpmgjnjhdoclfhh/newtab.htmlwikipedia", instead of just "wikipedia". it's very annoying, can you please fix this? :( It would be cool if url auto selected, not just focused, so when you type, it erases the "chrome-extension://pncpfofkienlinhfknpmgjnjhdoclfhh/newtab.html".

But since one of the recent updates whenever I open a new tab/page the focus is in the Google search field and not in the URL address bar as previously. That's the only reason for 4 out of 5 stars. UPDATED to 5 stars after the developer's helpful comments!

• (2022-01-08) Miguel Bayón: Great extension, works flawlessly on Opera. One suggestion that would improve it a lot for me is to clean or select the URL text when opening a new tab. Usually a hit Ctrl+T to open a new tab and the directly write the URL that I want to go to, I have the 'Focus on the browser addess bar' option selected but still a bit annoying having to delete the address everytime in order to write the new one. Anyways, great extension, thanks for the good work.

No matter what I do, it keeps reverting to chrome-extension://mjfahldkpjhcnfbbmdhpjolcjpcfhcpj/google.html after I hit Save. It was working before! Am I doing something completely stupid? TY!
• (2021-08-20) Paul Shorey: Awesome! Many features. Easy to use. Thank you for making it! It even works on Opera, at least for now. I hope Opera doesn't disable this extension like they did to all others. They like to prevent you from modifying their precious "new tab" experience.
• (2021-07-17) IntellivisionDude Plimpton: I seem to be having the same problem as someone else. I'm using this on Opera with FVD Speed Dial. But it doesn't always open the correct tab. It opens Opera's speed dial page instead quite a bit. Sometimes it works first try and sometimes i have click new tab 2-5 times before the correct tab opens. I should check and see if any other extensions are messing with it. I'm not sure what the issue is.
• (2021-07-14) paul shorey: Best extension - powerful options. Set it to focus the url address bar on new tab change, so when you open a new tab, you can just start typing into the address bar. With some other extensions, you have to click the address bar, then type. That is annoying. This lets you continue using the "Cmd + T" new tab as you did before, as without the extension.
• (2021-07-10) FatheredPuma81: It's not bad, but it's barely an improvement (for specific users that want Google services plastered all over their newtab page) over the default that I'm left wondering why? I mean it doesn't even support "themes" (images) or even different search engines. Was pretty much just looking for a blank newtab page that supported my theme so I didn't have to see that ugly search bar and other icons. Actually that's a lie Microsoft Edge's theme support is really buggy and keeps regressing to having bars on the side of my newtab image which is why I was looking for something else.

• (2020-07-31) Netra Shukla: This new tab page extension is AWESOME for taking care of that pesky search marquis thing that always pops up in the new tab page, but the only things I don't really like are: 1. It doesn't let you make shortcuts so you can easily go to tabs that you use frequently like the normal new tab page 2. You can't change the clock time on the bottom left corner of the page, or change the clock settings from analog to digital. If this new tab start page could improve on those things, it would be amazing!

I only miss one option. Force focus the address bar after opening a new tab. It annoys that when opening a new tab, we still have to click on the address bar to enter the page.
