Image from store URL Shortener - TinyURL Extension
Description from store The only URL Shortener Extension that doesn't open a popup. Clicking the Extension Icon is all you need to do to shorten and copy the current URL, with no extra clutter to distract you from your browsing. The same functionality is added to Chrome's Context menu for links, right-clicking a link gives you the option to shorten and copy the clicked link with just one click. An 'OK' or 'ERR' badge is displayed on the Extension Icon to notify the user about a successful shortening and that the shortened URL is now copied to the user's clipboard, or to notify the user of an error. This extension uses TinyURL's URL Shortener Service to shorten the URLs. This extension does not store user data at any point. The current URL (or the URL from the clicked link) is the only thing that gets sent to the TinyURL API. The original URL or the shortened URL is not stored by this extension.

  • (2025-07-12) Shane Eckel: This extension, as well as the site, is perfect! It does the job, it's super flexible, it's accessible via extensions & APIs, and it's FREE. Love it! 5 Stars (★★★★★) from me! You have *a lot* of flexibility with renaming links - even when you created them some time ago. Other apps (bit.ly said What?) blocks this for their free tier. This makes it really frustrating, as things change all the time, and you need to have this flexibility. This extension is simple, straightforward, and it does what it says. Isn't that what we all want and what makes a great tool useful?? Now, I haven't look too deep into the ext (I always use the site), and **maybe someone from TinyURL can inform me** - but I don't see a way via the extension to save the link to your account on the site. Also, you can't modify the back half of the shortened link via the extension, like you can do on the site. The extension is sort of like a one-off. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I read somewhere that this is because they want to make it easy for both the user and the developers. Plus, it makes things more secure since there isn't any PWs and account info going back and forth with their servers. If I were to ask for (2) things from the extension, it would be that the links created get saved back to your account (if you have one) and be given the ability to edit the back end of the shortened link. But even with that - this beautifully free, flexible and useful extension gets more than 5 ★'s from me. * Side note, I connected TinyURL with the world's best screenshot / screen recording app ever, ShareX. So, whenever I take a screenshot, ShareX uploads the image to my Flickr account, creates a link, then reaches out to TinyURL to shorten Flickr's link, then copies that to my Clipboard, in one, single click. TinyURL, Flickr, and (the most amazing screenshot app), ShareX are ALL FREE?!? Thank you, God, for these amazing developers & owners of these apps! (metaphorically, of course) ;)
