Genesis is one of the oldest and best fantasy-roleplaying games of all time. For 25 years, it has been home to players from all around the world.
Play as one of over 10 different races and sub-races, determining the story behind who you are, and who you will choose to become.
Explore by adventuring in over 20 realms, many of which have been inspired by popular settings from fantasy literature and others which are unique originals.
Complete hundreds of hand-crafted and thematic quests scattered throughout the game, many of which reward riches and powerful items to those who prevail against their mysteries.
Pit yourself against thousands of unique foes, either to gain power and fortune as a ransacking raider, or to protect the lands you love from unwanted enemies.
Arm yourself with a countless array of items that can be found, won, purchased, or crafted. If you are lucky, you might even find one of the rare enchanted items that are randomly imbued with power by the strange forces that lurk in the deeps.
And, most importantly, determine your role in the fabric of the realms by choosing your profession from over 20 thematic guilds, all of which supply their members with purpose, power, and a deep storyline.
Come be part of the unfolding history of the original roleplaying LPMud - Genesis!

- (2023-03-06) First introduced to it in the mid-90's. Came back during the pandemic to see if it was as fun as I remembered. It definitely is! Great content and a lot of longevity. The community is very friendly as well.
- (2021-12-20) What In Tarnation: Text based RPG, great community,,, I've been playing sporadically for years and haven't gotten very far, but its still super fun with awesome world building... The universe is shaped like a donut and you can eat teeth for regain health, what more could I ask for?
- (2021-04-25) Lord Styles of Liwitch: Having played and developed parts of Genesis back the early days I still love it. Genesis with its players, wizards and online communities is still great fun. I wish more people would discover the challenges of adventuring in this world. Its free to play and if you enjoy fantasy roleplay you will be greatly rewarded.
- (2021-03-28) Johan Grandin: I cannot recommend this game enough, or should I hand out a warning (?) It is truly an excellent and deeply involving game once you get into it. And once you get into Genesis LP MUD, it might be hard to ever get out again. I have been playing this game on and off since 1995, mostly on. I recently came back after a 10+ year break and found out that the game has improved a lot. Its easier than ever to get started through the web browser based client, in the past I've accessed this game through straight telnet without any client and by way of a MUD Client. These days I see no need for anything more than the web client. During my years within this game I've had two characters, Thalamus and Treo, these characters have been part of different guilds (classes) over the years. Gladiator, Monk, Dragonarmy General, Vampire and most recently part of an Ogre army. So much to do, so little time!
- (2021-03-18) Em Herrema: I discovered this game several years ago, and have been playing on and off ever since. In recent months I've actually started playing a lot more consistently, and I'm loving it all! The game is incredibly well made, with an excellent team of people working to make things more enjoyable for everyone. The community is one of the friendliest and most helpful I've ever seen, and I've met a ton of awesome like-minded people in it. 10/5, beauty.
- (2020-12-23) Kalinzia: I saw this when I got a chromebook and couldn't game anymore in 2017... I've fallen in love with this game and have been playing it since. Really recommend it- there's a slight learning curve, but the official discord community is really helpful, and there's plenty of resources if you're having difficulty. Probably in my top 3 games of all time, it's 100% free and I don't really get bored of it. 10/10!!
- (2020-08-22) Kai ONeill: Great game, lovely community!
- (2019-11-14) The Good Student: A Great Game. Very accessible through this client. Very helpful players through the ntell command and an attractive map which makes traversing this text-based multiplayer world very easily. Tough but rewarding quests which require you to think. An excellent tutorial island which gives people new to the text-based multiplayer genre called MUDs (Multi User Dungeon). Roleplay is expected and encouraged but not mandatory so people who are new to it shouldn't feel too pressured. Genesis has been online since 1998 so it is sure to stay around and that your progress in it should not be erased as it is in games which come and go.
- (2019-10-05) baker jim: amazing game. i wish i knew where it's been hiding my whole life. I feel like i've been given a gift today.
- (2019-09-06) Gaming Phoenix: it does not have any vampires
- (2019-07-19) Gooierchip: the three things i love, action, arcade and it's multiplayer
- (2019-06-29) GuyFerrari Boii: The best mud I have ever played
- (2018-11-17) Devon: This is my new favorite game! It's really fun and somehow more immersive than all the MMORPG's I've played...
- (2018-08-29) Ira White: I miss the immersion of a text based rpg. A great break from graphic MMO's - I might have to stop paying for top speed internet :)
- (2018-08-08) Jeffrey Ke: An amazing game. Lots of player support. Great gameplay. For those who don't mind memorizing game commands, and fans who've always wanted their own piece of fantasy
- (2018-07-13) Tom Langton: after a 22 year break- went back to the game and love it again.. Free, fun and very addictive
- (2018-06-20) Dimitris Kosmas-Lekkas: Impressive depth in mechanics as well as some cool RP since I've been playing! Great experience :)
- (2018-06-17) Jeffery Mersereau: Been playing over 25 years.
- (2018-01-19) Trevor Rauzi: i have no idea how to play. extremely frustrating.
- (2017-09-11) Iann Villanueva: Love the game. 1. play at work (somehow, not blocked by IT. Nice!) 2. Gears don't save most of the time (+ for me). It means that we all start from scratch unless you got guild 3. Staff works for free, (cloud) servers were donated/provided/borrowed through a friend (donations optional) *slow clap* Donating gives you a brooch with emotes. Don't expect special privileges. 4. Wizards (mod) will ban according to the rules. -note for new to MUD, start and finish the tutorial. This was my first. -nva
- (2017-08-11) Dave Preston: Not great full game. I made it through the tutorial slog. There were no magic items. It was only beating up animals with my elbows feet head, weird body parts. If there are any pros: it's like a solo game where you get to play by yourself Cons: why would I play an empty world? There is nobody left. Think everyone went to WoW and left good bye notes. Boring.
- (2017-06-30) Riven V: Honestly I've been looking for a mud again for awhile and love this one. Yeah it's clunky but it's been around for ages. I find it endearing personally because it gives it character. I wish there was more in places under development but hey I don't know programming so I have no room to talk. XD Anyway the game is fun, the people don't hold your hand through everything but you ask them the right questions and they will point you in the right direction. What fun is an RP where you are being told how to do it all or walked through it instead of learning on your own. I look forward to many more hours on this game and meeting and helping new players to enjoy this game. Before I go, the topic of losing your gear, most of it is super easy to get again or you just need to get creative where you log out. Find a place where you know people don't frequent and drop your stuff there. Easy peasy. This game has many ways to farm money and plenty of places to buy gear. This game makes you think ahead of the other players and I like that. Have been recommending to all of my friends. :)
- (2017-06-30) Morg Zaash: Addicting as hell, been playing for 20+ years now ...
- (2017-06-07) Sammy Vierne: So I played this for a while and really got into it there are some good and very bad. The main issues I have with the game are if you're a competitive person you might as well move on. They have whats called a soft cap in which the old players who have been there for 10-20+ years have had unlimited growth. Without putting that same amount of time in you'll never be able to catch up to them. This also makes it hard to roleplay without just being a neutral weeny. Since if you talk out of turn they'll just nuke you. The community is extremely toxic towards new players as well in this aspect too. If you even mention how unfair it is they basically lynch you, call the younger generation lazy etc etc. All in all, great idea loved the combat just the game design and community were pretty horrible towards new players.
- (2017-05-31) David Sherratt: So much fun. I feel less like killing myself now!!!

- (2017-05-05) Alpha Lime: enjoyed the fun in it just hard learning curve tho still trying to learn but fun so far
- (2017-04-01) Fergus Kean: Fantastic game, great community of players and while it is a little difficult to learn at first, once you get the hang of it, it becomes really addictive.
- (2017-03-05) Johan Kou: If you have a great imagination, a love for reading or RPGs, role-playing and/or quests this is a great game to play. Definitely recommended.
- (2016-11-10) Denna Genesis: If you love text based games and roleplaying, you will love this game. Check out the Youtube Tutorials Available at my Channel: https://youtu.be/dWnh9ntT7JM We look forward to having you in our community.
- (2016-09-30) Gabren Williams: Personally, this is a whole lot better than the other text-based game called Sryth, in the fact that it is free, and you can talk to other players. The only con I have with it is that it is a little hard to learn how to play at first. If you need any help, they have a wiki that helped me and increased my inventory tenfold. This is the game you want!
- (2016-09-07) Starwatcher72: Its so much fun
- (2016-05-27) Sara Sarai: A free game with unbelievable longevity.

- (2015-07-22) Dylan Gaskin: This has to be the best text based game I've ever played, especially since it keeps so close to it stays so close with LOTR! Thanks so much for the great game.
- (2015-07-19) Alex “dragonstar” D'Alba: Very good
- (2015-07-10) Licentious Lust: Reminds me of another incredibly olde and wonderful MUD that ah play. See you in the world Shugah. *thumbs up* Recommended to my friends and foes alike.
- (2015-06-21) Michaela Cutler: I love except for the fact that your inventory is clear when you shut off the game. I bought a club and it just wisked away. =-(
- (2015-06-20) Chris Takoama: I can't believe how quickly this game drew me in. Lot of fun exploring and interacting with fellow players.
- (2015-06-12) Kitanga Nday: I have to admit. I'm addicted XD
- (2015-05-23) Tyson Surls: I've played Genesis off and on for over 12 years. I've played other Role-Playing games (MMOs and otherwise) throughout, but I always come back to Genesis. There is incredible depth and attention to detail, and the community of players is very welcoming and helpful.
